I've only gone and done it!

  1. Well, it's £1600 or so cheaper than new, but it isn't 'new'. Bearing in mind that proper 'new' ones come with £1000 of extras (as stated elsewhere on here), 'my' (probably skewed) logic says you are effectively getting a £500 discount on new...assuming you actually want the accessories that are being given for 'free' (and therefore would spend money on them).

So yes, probably £1000 too much... Boomers bike is a great example, and 'only' £1000 more, but that's the rub... It is more... It depends on how easy it is to shift your bike and get the necessary finance in place (by whatever means).

That then affects whether the dealer 'offer' is good or not....ease of transaction. Yes it may be a little too much to pay, but they will make the whole process 'easy' for you. ....

Basically, I think it depends on what options you have, and how you can 'work the numbers'.... Perhaps get the dealer to throw in some servicing? Or perhaps some accessories? You can only ask....

Me? I'd be looking lustily at Boomers bike...from memory I seem to recall that it had everything you could possibly want already on it! And shiny QDs...which are very shiny, and very very nice... Take the baffles out and hear the Multi really bark! I've had a few 'baffles out' rides...I shouldn't really though, I blipped the throttle outside a shop and everyone inside jumped! Ooops.... Sorry.

  2. Yes....just had another look at Boomers bike for sale... I'd buy that. Definitely. Only thing missing is a top box... If you wanted one..

That is just lovely... And still low miles. ....oh, and no, I don't know Boomer, nor do I work for him. It's just a lovely example, with lots of very expensive extras on it...extras that you will want...O2 Manipulators, QDs, Luggage, keyless fuel cap, etc... You cannot get all those things for £1k more...I know, I have most of these things on my bike, and my Bank Manager (and partner) will tell you it is impossible to buy all these things for the Multi for less than £1k...The QDs alone are around £1400!

  3. Thanks David D for your recomendations

Your bang on someone is going to get a cracking bike with that Pikes peak we have for sale, especially with all those extras !!
If it wasnt for the fact i already own a Multistrada 1200 sport with lots of extras and the amazing QD exhaust i would be having it for myself !

It came into us in part exchange for a Aston Martin ! So you can imagine how much the previous customer spent on it ! Over £20K ! So its a bargain for someone, waiting to happen !

  4. I'm still doing the lottery and hoping I get a big enough win! If I do Boomer will be getting a call from me!

  5. Yeah...the only other things I can think you might want to add are a NaviHälter sat Nav screen mount (and then a sat Nav device of your choice), a Scottoiler (or equivalent...if that interests you), a stronger rear spring (if you do lots to 2 up with luggage and are heavier than about 75Kg), and some 'Techspec' knee grip pads (or Stompgrip)... Other than that, and perhaps the original PP screen for days when you want a shorty screen, I'm really struggling to think what else you could possibly add, other than a top box... The previous owner really went to town on it!

As Boomer says, if I didn't have my MY10 with most of these (or similar) additions, I'd be very interested. Well, except I'm now lustily eyeing a test ride on the MY13.....

    Now there's a dilemma...this or an MY13? Hmmm....

Bottomw line remains though, it depends on how much you can afford, and what you want. If you have the money, this is a cracking example. If you don't, we'll you don't, and no matter how good it is, or how many extras are on it, it will be too expensive.

    Options.

Boomer won't thank me for saying this but, you can tell the dealer you are talking to now that there is an excellent example for only £1k more... I'd still buy Boomer's, but that is me. Sorry Boomer.

  6. QD's: You; people jumping. Me; car alarms.

  7. Ah, I had car alarms going off too, but I noticed the people in the shop 'jump' more... The funny thing is that with the baffles out and around town, I pop it into a gear higher to help 'ease' the noise levels. This has a ice side affect of saving me fuel! It's still got plenty of oomph, but I've got the choice. Noisy and antisocial, or 'quiet' and burbling. (disclaimer: when I say 'quiet', it isn't quiet, but quieter, and still louder than stick. But it does sound like a Ducati should).

  8. Very sound advice David and trust me if the cash was readily available I would be genuinely interested in Boomer's bike, however it's not :(

  9. Yes....which is why 'tempting' as it may be, if the cash isn't there, it isn't there! Which is a shame... However, I would still be talking to your dealer to see what he might offer... It's a used bike after all, and he will want to shift it. I'm not a dealer, but remember that the cost 'you' pay for servicing is not what it costs him...therefore any servicing he throws in is good for him because it doesn't cost as much as it seems. Plus of course he gets you to come to his workshop, and that keeps his guys busy...which is good for him too! Nothing worse than staff sitting about with nothing to do! Worth asking anyway... I hope it all works out, and you get a cracking deal that suits.

  10. Booked myself in for a test ride tomorrow afternoon.

  11. Why the bloody hell did I do that?! What a bike!

  12. Ooops, another one hooked! ;-)

  13. Yep, only thing I could really fault the bike on was the poor rear brake and the buffeting, which are both fixable, they had a 2010 bike in with only 900 miles on the clock, lots of extras but up at £12995, I really need to work out what to do from here as I want one of these bikes but want to get a good deal too.

  14. Yes.... I think the only advice I'd give is to really think about what you want to 'do' with the bike. The 'extras' are only good if they are ones you want... ;-) But, it will certainly be cheaper to buy a bike with them already fitted... I also think you are in a good position in that dealers will want to shift their pre-MY12 bikes, and second hand ones will likely fall a little in value once the MY13 comes out. Plus we are heading out of the biking season, winter will be here soon, and prices will drop (not so good for the bike you are selling though). Of course next year there could be a glut of used bikes, depending on how many people decide to trade up to the MY13 model. That could give you more choice. If you can wait that long....which I doubt seeing as you've ridden it now. I was only 'trying' it too...2 hours later I was buying an MY10 S Touring ....I think many have a similar tale to tell.

Oh, the dealers all go to Bilbao on Monday for sales training and to try the MY13...

  15. Had my test ride this afternoon as well and enjoyed it immensely too.

Was impressed with the different map settings as i thought they might be a gimmick but they certainly change the way the bike responds in a big way. Not so sure that the suspension settings made a huge difference but that might be to do with the route i took.

I too noticed a little buffeting but TBH i like to have some feel for how fast i am going and if you want to sit in still air, i think you might need a BMW RT or the new Triumph Trophy.

Did talk a few figures and was offered a decent price on my Speed Triple but cannot in all honesty say that the deal was good enough to entice me now at the end of my biking season and the £1000 extras is not a mix of things i would particularly choose.

May go back in a couple of weeks and see if numbers change but otherwise i will wait til Springtime and a 2013 model bike.

  16. I think that's it in a nutshell. It sounds good, but they have to be things you actually want to in order for the deal to be 'good'... That's why I was saying before about having a good think about what the bike would be use for.

  17. Me too. New black sport arrives Monday. Panniers, centre stand, termi can, dark screen and carbon front mudguard. Lets hope she gives me as good service as my last three Sts because she is a beauty to look at and amazing to ride.

  18. Somehow Tony i didn't think it would be a used one for you.

Knowing what you are trading in i cant wait to hear what you think of the new toy. You know why as well i'm sure.

  19. I do agree about the engine maps making a difference but I am kinda used to that from my Dorsoduro anyway, I will disagree with you regarding the suspension, I used a mix of sweeping A's and Dual carriageways and Touring/Sport were ideal for this, I also took in part of a city centre and Urban mode really allowed the suspension to soften up and absorb the manholes etc (I was riding 2 up btw)

However for some reason the ABS light and the DTC Off warning were on the whole time I was on Test, I tried to stop and turn them on using the settings but it just wasn't happening, slightly disappointing .

I am really thinking the same as you, I will wait until Spring, save up some more cash and then hopefully pick up a 2012 bike for a good deal :)

  20. I didn't get to try the Urban mode which was probably a mistake as the salesman told me it is very good.

Since 99.9% of my riding will be one up, i don't think the DES is worth the money to me and its one less thing to go wrong.
