  1. The "revenge is a dish best served cold" idea is an interesting hypothesis but for it to hold up Ron Dennis must have known that the Honda engine was going to be uncompetitive before opening negotiations with Alonso during the previous season, which is certainly possible. And what is a few million spent on Alonso's salary if he can be dropped at the back of the grid.

The more I think about this the more it becomes believable.

  2. Interesting article and some fascinating power struggles going on. There will never be another Bernie!

The McLaren chassis has actually been rather good this year and if they still had the Mercedes engine they would have likely been 3rd behind Ferrari. I didn't expect Honda to be quite such a weak engine this year. Fundamentally down on power, unable to generate enough electric charge to last more than half a typical straight AND massively unreliable. For sheer company pride you have to hope they transfer some of their finest engineers onto this project. Otherwise it's going to be another dreadful year and a massive waste of two great drivers career ends.

I hope Mercedes don't block the others from introducing more developments and upgrades. The Mercedes domination is becoming a real bore, even to me as a die hard F1 fan.

  3. Well maybe. On the other hand, why deny the good Northamptonshire folk of Brixworth and Brackley their spell on the top of the world? Especially if the bills are paid in Stuttgart?

  4. I don't have a problem with them winning, just want it to be a hard fought and exciting contest!

  5. Yeah, but they are nearly all from around that area within 50 miles or so, aren't they? Seemed even Ferrari had some Brit engineers running half the thing.
