Jesus... Gulp... 1098r Oil Change...

  1. Thats the only type of workshop I will ever use.

Cuts out the bullshitters and you deal with the bloke with oily hands who has worked on your bike.

  2. Exactly. Always better to pay for technical knowledge and hard worked experience rather than the glitzy brochures! Hopefully your R will return to you in the best of health soon, and do keep us posted on how it develops! :upyeah:

  4. Got back from track day at Anglesey late last night, beasted the bike all day, all the gears still work and the motor still feels like it has 180 odd bhp .
    Tough bikes those Rs

  7. Blimey, yeah yonks ago. Turned out to be nowt in the end.... Well, nowt that four and a half grand couldn't fix... Ouch.
MR did a fabulous job, I was/am delighted with it. Just back from a 4 day gig with Tracksense in Almeria. It didn't miss a beat. Haven't dropped the oil yet but I'll be home in 3 weeks when I can tart it up again and give some TLC.

  8. Can you define what "nowt" was in the end?

  9. Good news M.H., above question is definitely the "meat in the sandwich".
As bike showed no obvious signs of what was loose in the sump when it last ran post track day, am guessing a piston fractured through the crown and began disintegrated from the skirt upward, mercifully just remaining attached to con rod (just for starters).

  10. Just kidding, it was actually quite a lot! Quite accurately described by Chris above. Required full rebuild. I had the crankshaft balanced and gearbox rebuilt and super finished. Didn't go daft with the tuning, though I was tempted. Heads gas flowed and squished a bit. Still gave a hearty 181rwbhp on MR's conservative dyno. Feels brilliant and bonkers.
It's an 8 year old bike now and there's still nowt out there (stock) that'll worry me on the gas. Nothing. Ducati put a truly fabulous bike together in the 1098R. No doubt in my mind of being a future classic. A keeper for sure, I love it!

  11. I love mine too. It is a mental and raw thing. It's the only bike I've taken out this year and can't see that changing soon.

  12. Bugger.... :/
