  2. One of the very few Americans who was genuinely very very funny...
RIP Joan, the world is a poorer place for your passing.

  3. Even though most was in bad taste.
, she was sharp as a knife

  4. I guess most of the thread was given to the recent troubles in Gaza. I think she had royalty status in the USA.

  5. Seems anyone who likes the killing and stealing lands from the Palestinians have royalty status on here too

  6. A brilliant comedian as already stated previously, I am sure I would not be keen on a lot of others comedians who make me laugh views on certain topics,ie Frankie Boyle for one,but he makes me laugh, just like Joan did, and women comedians are a very rare breed,I imagine it would be a tough place to be for,a woman comedian indeed.

  7. How would you describe post number two ? The last line in particular .

  8. That was the post that read:
"I gladly donated to the Gaza appeal tonight...........to help people that the Jews have tried to destroy. From today I fucking hate them and I hope the Israel Embassy gets burnt down tomorrow."

Yes, that is definitely over the top. The poster has wrongly conflated "the Jews" with "Israel". Any more?

  9. Over the top ? yes ........I should not have posted that but I do hate them for what they have done, not for who they are !

  10. More civilians have been killed in the recent troubles in Ukraine.

  11. Oh, thats ok then

  12. No it's not ok then, but we don't see the same language used against the Russians / Ukrainians do we? If so please show me where.

  13. Show us where the Russians are indiscriminately dropping bombs into heavily populated areas

There are probably more being slaughtered every day in African villages too

The point you make is still not valid either way, but if you sleep well at night knowingly and supporting a nation, not a race, creed, religious belief or whatever, but an nation that feels its right to send in solders to another countries land, then retaliate 100 fold for every solder that gets killed, you have less of a conscience than me

  14. I don't have a problem of military intervention in Gaza when justified, which I absolutely 100% believe it is, intact I think they stopped too soon!rather like we did in Iraq the first time around, and I am sleeping very well thanks as a result. I do toss and turn at the terrible things that go on all over our planet, female genital mutilation, mass slaughter in Syria and Iraq and Somalia Nigeria etc,

  15. It depends what you mean by "justified". In terms of the Israeli settlers trying to hang on to to the lands they have conquered, they are "justified" in using the strongest military measures to fight off the Palestinians. From the perspective of Palestinians trying to regain the lands from which they were ejected, they are "justified" in using all of the (limited) measures available to them to fight off the Israelis.

The Israelis would be quite content if the status quo as at 2014 continued for ever, provided they were left in peace to enjoy their ill-gotten gains. Nothing could satisfy the Palestinians except a return to their status quo ante 1948, obviously, so there is no peace for them.

Those of us who are neither Israelis nor Palestinians, looking on as disinterested observers, can choose which kind of outcome we think would be fairer: a 2014 map or a pre-1948 map.

  17. Life would be so much better if everyone was more tollerant...

  18. there was one little detail missed out there. ;)

  19. Many thanks. In broad terms the map of developing borders illustrates well how each modern state has historically been assembled out of parts, and how mutable borders are. But don't take the details in the moving map too literally - it has very many errors of position and date.

  20. When the militant wing of the SNP starts lobbing rockets over the border to annoy the "occupying" English powers, I wonder how many people will complain...
