Thanks for the offer of a multi but my budget is for everything. Means I got around 7k for a bike. Looks like I got to buy from mainland, shipping isnt cheap.
Contrary to my expectations I've found, over 7yrs ownership, that the original style monsters, particularly the ones with 2-valve motors, are amazingly easy to work on. If you're on a tight budget (I am too) then one of these could keep your servicing costs down. Mine hasn't seen a dealer's workshop since I bought it. As for dreaming, I woke up one morning in 1976, with the remnants of a dream that I'd just bought a Z1 Kawasaki still buzzing in my head. After a while though, just as the disappointment that it was only a dream was kicking in, I suddenly realised that it wasn't a dream at all....I really had bought one and the bike was tucked up in the garage waiting for me. I promptly threw a sickie and had the day off work to ride the bike.
I saw a really immaculate monster 1100 evo on eBay with termi's yesterday, lovely looking bike and the 1100 would have enough grunt that u wouldn't get bored too quickly.
I live in the real world and can run 2 ducati's. I am neither wealthy nor gifted. They are no different to any other bike. They are not overtly expensive to run, however bits of carbon seem pricier. Servicing seems only mildy more expensive mainly because of the belts every 2 yrs. I'd buy another if i could. Then another. And another. V Twin grunt is intoxicating. Plus theres the sound. Beats any IL4 for the soundtrack. Only a sweet triple comes close.
Yes you can buy a ducati as your first road bike.I purchased a 996BP after passing my test and really enjoyed it . Road riding on a superbike is a piece of piss compared to moto x control skills imho. I used to race a KX500 in AMCA at 15 yrs old lol after a couple of yrs on 250's.Great days. Buy what duke you like (maybe test ride a few) and just remember every cage driver is trying to kill you and you wont go far wrong.
Thank you for the advice. I keep going back to the Ducati, just something about them. I may get my fingers burnt, but hey, live and learn. Hopefully when I come back, I will have actually bought one.
As anyone will tell you, there are much better bikes to start on than a Ducati. But they are all wrong. I've owned Jap IL4s, British triples and Austrian thumpers, and nothing but nothing has come close to stirring my soul like a Ducati. Live your dream, you only get one shot.
I've got a Monster, which I love, but look at the Hyperstrada and Hypermotard. The new bikes have great electronics and are loads of fun. Big service intervals too.
this test stuff is taking forever. seriously thinking of a new 848 Evo, big money but its seriously nice.
I passed last year and have loved hooning around on my 600SS perfect introduction to the whole Ducati thing.
Well, today, I paid a deposit on a 848 EVO. I will be eating pot noodles, but I have to say, I know I made the right choice, for me.
My wife was with me. Will be a few weeks before I collect, it will drag. I'm thinking, who will cut the lawn on the sunny days!!!!!
