Thanks We run thru there early too many rozzers around later we beat the cafe Opening a lot of the time !!! Of course we don’t break the speed limits on the Ludlow to Knighton rd ;-)
This is my '92 851, thinking of selling in the summer as not enough riding time these days.....we'll see though once I get it out in the Spring.... If a meet is being suggested...I'm on the East Sussex coast.
Steve, Can you tell me a bit more on the configuration or the 955 motor you're planing to build. Heads, cams, crank cases, rods etc? Will you need 10K + rpm since 955 and 135/140 rwhp (what crank cases)? Regards, Jacco
Steve, Wow, that's some engine you're building. I am in the process of building my engine, but it is going to be a very modest one compared to yours (base SP3): 907 cc (95 mm bore) modified JE pistons (12.3:1) 748R heads & cams, modified inlet and exhaust ports, 36/30 mm valves double higher flow injectors (IW031) carrillo rods lightened and balanced crank S4 crank cases advancing the cams 6 degr, hoping for 120 RWHP @10.000 rpm
Just out of interest, In lieu of the 851 888 Forum returning, this gives a rough idea of owners on here as of 2 years ago anyway: ducati dad 851/SP4/851(996) Sambighair 1990 851 Strada farmster 888 henk 1994 888 Strada Stang 1992 851 Mr. R 1992 851 jakepeewee SP3 Chris 851 Strada jack999s 888 MADASL SP4 replica Bridgland KevB Please re-post above if amendments or deletions needed.
Steve, Since the base is an SP3 I already have dual injectors per cilinder. But the OEM injectors don't flow enough. In the current state (well, 6 months ago) I had done a couple of mods and had to bump up the fuel pressure to 3,7 bar. So for it's new state of tuning I decided to upgrade the injectors to IW031 (they flow 270 ml/min, OEM is 190 ml/min @ 3bar). I will also keep the fuel pressure at 3,7 bar if the pump agrees with that. Ofcourse I hope for 125 rwhp, but I am trying to not get carried away expecting that much hp and be disappointed. So I am modestly expecting 120 RWHP and hoping to be suprised Also I have the original airbox (no lid), so perhaps that will limit peak power to some extend. I am doing almost all the work myself together with a friend. I bought (used) 748R heads and had Van de Biggelaar (reputable ducati tuner in the Netherlands) optimize the inlet and exhaust ports. I bought used 748R cams. I had the 95 mm bore JE pistons machined (pockets) to fit the bigger valves and also took some off of the deck to raise the compression. The pockets were so deep for the older architecture cams (ie G-inlet), not needed for the 748R cams. I think the only thing me and my friend won't do ourselves is enlightening and dynamic balancing of the crank. Right now I am on a stand still, saving to get the money to buy the carrillo's and also trying to find spare time. These holydays took a hit on my bank account!
Hi Steve, We'll see how it will turn out, I can't wait till she's ready for the dyno! First thing to do is stripping and repainting the S4 cases. And of course buying the carrillo's so I can get the crank lightend and balanced (at Kaemna). I will keep you posted! Jacco
Steve, That was a real bargain, those carrillo's for 200 GBP. The cheapest I can find is 750 euro (660 GBP). I thought about letting Andrew balance the crank but the shipping to and from the UK is pretty expensive. In 1.5 hour drive I am at Kaemna and I always wanted to visit that place. Plus I also hear good things about Kaemna and the way they balance the cranks. Jacco
Thanks. Can't take credit for the photo. The bike was used in a Practical Sportsbike feature in 2016 and this was one of the photos from that. We'll see about changing my mind. I love it but at 6ft2 with a dodgy back the riding position is too much for me. Although I've been riding for over 20 years this was my first sports bike so I'm not used to them, which I don't think helps. I've had it about 4 years and have done under 1,500 miles so far. We'll see when the sun appears I guess....
Don't know if these are the correct rods for you or if they are priced right, or if purchase and shipping is practical, but.......................( Not mine or me selling, just seen them this evening) https://www.trademe.co.nz/motors/mo...64.htm?rsqid=3d55b6c5a2eb4b618fd6772da14fd086
Dave, Thanks for the link! That is a lot cheaper than the 750 euro they cost over here in Europe (750 NZD is approx. 450 euro), but it will at least take 200 euro additional costs to get it in to the Netherlands for shipping and taxes :-(. And it is not clear if these carrillo's are new and what type they are. Registering at that site is also not possible if you're not from NZ or AUS. Jacco
yes i have back problems but maybe change your mind set and do some exercises to build up your core muscles this might help you,,just thinking outside the box!
