Ktm 1290 superduke R

Discussion in 'Other Bikes' started by brog86, Jul 26, 2013.

  1. This is the dilemma I have I love sportsbike a and there the reason that I got into biking but I feel better on a naked bike and they are just as fast. Maybe this new superduke or a streetfighter 1098 would suit me best but I would find it hard to part with my 848. I'm starting to think one bike isn't enough :)

  2. Never, ever, ever enough under any circumstance!

I'm sitting tight and waiting for the KTM and new Monster to arrive. If the KTM is as brutal as it sounds and the Monster 1198 nothing but a baby Diavel (as I fear it will be) then that will be my decision made.

  4. Impressive..can't wait to see one and will be tempted.

I've always wanted a KTM SDR and so nearly bought one many, many times...

Two things put me off, no local dealer and their pricing is all over the place with massive discounts off last years models, they were discounting them by £2500 a couple of years ago the same as the RC8. Think the second hand values are low so you need to buy cheap.

  5. It's looking like a bit of animal can't wait to see what the finished model ends up like

  6. Your so right about the pricing, I'm on my third RC8 and will never buy a new KTM, I'll be looking for an ex demo for my next Ktooom.

  7. I paid £7k for my SDR in 2008 and sold it this May for £5k. In my book that's acceptable depreciation, £2k over 5 years is decent. I'd shop around for sure.

  8. Am I missing something here or just getting old when is a sports bike not a sports bike. I can appreciate the raw power of the super Duke and would love to have a go but don't really understand what its trying to be, is it a sports , super sport, enduro, super enduro what. At the end of the day what ever turns you on I suppose.

  9. It is a plain old fashioned motorcycle. Two wheels, engine, seat, suspension, etc. ... what more do you need?

I love my Ducatis but I have to say my 990 SuperDuke guarantees more smiles per mile than any other bike I've ever ridden. I just worry the new one may be TOO much. Then again, how can you ever have TOO much ... LOL :)

  10. Hey Dave when you say plain old fashioned motorcycle do you mean like an AJS Norton or Triumph!!! lol

  11. I really like this bike, if it's the rabid animal it should be when released, I'd be interested.

  12. It's a super naked, for those who wanted to own something with a hooligan reputation without behaving like one. The original promotion video said it all and is a classic.

I hope they produce something just as memorable and criticised for the 1290.

  13. The whole KTM mindset is right for me. They make bikes that are a riot to ride, and then advertise them as such. Just how it should be. Ducati advertise their bikes as if they were an Armani suit rather than a motorbike, and the japs, quite frankly, haven't got a clue when it comes to selling their product. And the advertising is working on me, I'd bloody love a KTM.

  15. KTM look's 1 hell of a bike , but it's plain to see that the faster rider is on the KTM & not the BMW !!!

Look forward to see'in the KTM in the flesh ... :upyeah:

  18. I have to say that if one brand was likely to take my business from Ducati atm then it would be KTM. Or maybe Kawasaki.

Ok if two brands were likely to take my business from Ducati......

  19. I agree with Figaro. K.T.M really seem to know how to design a bike and make it appealing to the punters. The 390cc K.T.M looks streets ahead of the competition. I'm sorely tempted to buy one for use when I'm in India, especially now that the exchange rate is 100rupees to the £ at the moment.
