Ktm 1290 superduke R

Discussion in 'Other Bikes' started by brog86, Jul 26, 2013.

  1. The rumoured £15k pricetag will put a fair few potential buyers off if it's true, i suspect.

  2. Thats what I did when I wanted a new track bike and compared prices.....

Pani looks fantastic but just cost too much when you compare.

The KTM's also seems to be very reliable, even considering hard track use. KTM just need to work on their electronics packages, the 180 BHP - 170 kg RC8 Track scares me a bit.

  3. Seriously? Well it's just put me off I thought they would be aiming for under £11k defo under £12k not many people gonna pay more than that for a naked bike

  4. Ducati sold a few Streetfighter S models at that price tbh

its never going to be under £11k, but I reckon they'll opt for £13.5k to go head to head with the Tuono

in any case, I've just read this and now want one again :)

World Exclusive: 2014 KTM 1290 Super Duke R

  5. Yea but I think ducati can get away with those sort of prices. Yea your probably right a similar price to the tuono would seem a sensible target for them but I still haven't seen a tuono v4 on the road and their being sold at reduced prices. I don't know about anyone else but i wouldn't want to spend that much on a naked bike when you can buy most 1000cc sportsbike for less. RC8 is £12995 isn't it I hope the superduke Is less than that.

  6. The can's not too bad but the tail tidy is a fucking abortion.

  7. Also easily sorted :)

  8. But it should be sold as sorted.

I understand why cans are now designed like flip lid waste bins, but that tail tidy is just horrid and smacks of being pulled out of the parts bin as an afterthought.

  9. I know there's a regulation to say the rear tyre can't be the furthest part back of the bike this is why bikes with small tails have huge number plate brackets to get the plate behind the back tyre. But yea it still looks shit

  10. Exhaust easily sorted for me it's just the clocks, the just look wrong and don't follow the lines

  11. Wonder if it'll have the prototype's orange/white "racing" wheels as an option? - Hope so.

    .....and heated grips.

  13. bit to plastic fantastic for me

  14. You have to take your hat off to KTM marketing. They've nailed it again IMO in regards to the run up to launch.

dont get me wrong, the Ducati panigale video was ok but in comparison to both videos for the 1290 I'm afraid it's not a patch on them.

theyve produced a naked bike with 180bhp and more torque than a planet, the target market wants to see stuff like this and for me its spot on brand.

well done ktm, now what about 0% for little ol me ;)

  15. Yup - i agree with the above. Ktm have built their brand very well. My last KTM (660smc) was brilliant apart from the fact it took me 3 months or so to learn how to start it...ie know when youve kicked it over wrong to then know what to do to get it to kick...

Got my 1100 hyper evo last week and more than happy. I almost went for....

KTM 690 smcr - too expensive for what it was....
Z1000 (2010) - already had an 04 one a few years ago....the new one looked a little too bulky
    Z800 - beautiful looking - Heavier than the z1000! - extortionate finance.

Im wandering off base now.....anyway 1290 - nice, love one, but maybe for me a little too close to my RSV4factory....does anyone know the price? thatll be a deciding factor for most i would say.

You'll never get 0% on a 1290 - theyll be beating them off with shitty sticks....

I think the online marketing is spot on.....the amount and slickness of the advertising make you "want to be part of it"

  16. I bet its a riot to ride but it looks like its come out of a kinder egg!

I'll be sticking with my Speed Triple R i reckon...

  17. Gotta say the only bike making me even consider selling my duke it the KTM's.But then I had a 625 super comp and that was a real hoot round town. When I sat on the KTM RC8R a few yrs back at NEC bike show it felt just right straight out of the box so to speak. Now they bring out this lunatic 1290 naked and im getting tempted again.Plus the only thing Ive liked coming out the duke factory for ages is the hyper and desmosedici.

I never buy new though so would defo consider a ealrlier (mostly black) RC8R and would snap one of these new 1290's up in a couple of yrs when the depreciation has slowed.I just cant stand the thought of losing £1000's as soon as I wheel one out the showroom.

KTM marketing is light yrs ahead of all the others out there as many have said.Must be good to get this many duke owners seriously considering switching marque. As I used to race moto x ive always liked the bright orange Austrian stuff for sure.Top parts and build quality if I remember right.

  18. The Superduke looks great in black ! Would the wife notice my Triumph Speedtriple turning into a Ktm ? I blame Ducati of course by getting me suckered onto Vee twin torque

  19. Quote from today's MCN by the KTM boss:

"We already have planned a more extreme RR version of the 1290 Super Duke R along with a more touring model. Think of the 990 SMT for an example of how this might work."

  20. I commuted into London Euston from Croydon on a KTM300EXC 2stroke for a while. It was as mad as a bag of cats. Had a on/off throttle and needed a new plug every 40-50miles. And they were special stubby ones too. Effing thing would thrash every superbike you could mention from the lights. Every single one. I'd race many a 600/750/1000 in traffic and it spat em out.

It broke both my wrists. Twice. I had to sell it before it killed me. Which it tried to do every single time I rode it.

I suspect the 1290 would be a similar ride. Thus in the interests of self preservation I shall ignore it.
