I only know one Latin phrase (I went to a council school...), but it's served me well - Caveat emptor.
Blimey Chris you had me scratching my head there for a moment, I'm with you now thanks. Don't think Fiat made a car comfy enough to call one a Lux. Steve You know we could get in trouble now!!!
Nil carborundum illigitimi. Which reminds me.... Julies Caesar walks into a bar and says to the barman, "I'll have a Martinus, please." "You mean a Martini?", asks the barman. Caesar replies, "When I want a double I'll ask for one!"
One of my favourites is: Ex Africa semper aliquid novi = there is always something new out of Africa. Isn't that just as true today as it was 2000 years ago?
Have introduced many a colleague to "(sic)" when quoting carelessly written rubbish - useful shorthand for "yes, I know it makes no sense, and may not be what they meant, but that's actually what they wrote".
I might not be thanked for it, but Africa always seems to be the same old story to me: corrupt dictators bleeding the people dry and a populace sitting around in the dirt trying to make ends meet. Most of the world seems to move forward, Africa just stagnates. Of course, I haven't actually been to the black part, you understand.
