latin,

  1. I only know one Latin phrase (I went to a council school...), but it's served me well - Caveat emptor.

  2. If there was only one Latin phrase to know, that one might well be the most useful.

  3. build ya own with Lego. Or similar. Like on Blue Peter. They had an elephant too.

  8. Blimey Chris you had me scratching my head there for a moment, I'm with you now thanks. Don't think Fiat made a car comfy enough to call one a Lux.

You know we could get in trouble now!!!

  9. Nil carborundum illigitimi.

Which reminds me.... Julies Caesar walks into a bar and says to the barman, "I'll have a Martinus, please."
"You mean a Martini?", asks the barman.
Caesar replies, "When I want a double I'll ask for one!"

  18. One of my favourites is:
Ex Africa semper aliquid novi = there is always something new out of Africa.
Isn't that just as true today as it was 2000 years ago?

  19. Have introduced many a colleague to "(sic)" when quoting carelessly written rubbish - useful shorthand for "yes, I know it makes no sense, and may not be what they meant, but that's actually what they wrote".

  20. I might not be thanked for it, but Africa always seems to be the same old story to me: corrupt dictators bleeding the people dry and a populace sitting around in the dirt trying to make ends meet. Most of the world seems to move forward, Africa just stagnates.

Of course, I haven't actually been to the black part, you understand.
