Let's Hear About Your R53's

  1. haven’t made much progress as I’ve still been waiting for space in the workshop but I’ve done a couple of small jobs, fitted a facelift steering wheel. And I’ve made a list of all the jobs that need doing/want to do… and organised them in terms of what I’m doing over the next couple of months… I’m trying to save money currently so everything marked ‘0’ getting done first!

I’ve been super busy with work and life but I went over to get my car serviced today and while I was there had a look at the mini, it’s bad news, it’s just full of water and mould. It’s obviously leaking around the sun roof and tbh I’ve decided it’s just not worth the hassle continuing with the car.

However…. My mate has a much tidier convertible, which the original factory hair dressing kit still in place that I might be buying to bring up to scratch instead. The big difference is that the convertible is a runner and MOT’d and just needs about quarter of the list of jobs done! Also, we’ve been thinking for a while a convertible would be cool, my daughter is obsessed with them so ticks quite a few boxes if I can get it bought.

  4. I tested a soft top when they first came out and although I liked it the gaffer wanted a less jolly ride.

  5. Was fed up of my MOT tester moaning about my crusty front wishbones every year and sticking it down as an advisory so today I finally got round to sorting it.

Whilst putting the winter wheels on last week I put some rust solution on them, and today I jacked it up and sprayed some rust reformer (which is a kind of primer as well). They were still totally solid so hopefully that’s staved off the inevitable and given me a year or two with one less advisory!

  10. I don’t understand the wing thing at all, people change a stock wing, which isn’t designed for downforce, it’s designed to break the low pressure zone behind the rear window (and cause drag) and replace with one that’s for downforce, on a front wheel drive car?… would be far better sealing the undertray on the front half of the car and putting a splitter on to gain front grip.

    each to their own though!

  11. Unless you’re running a GT3RS, I’d leave wingage be…

  12. Back in the game… going to do the Black one after all, got the carpet out today, and gave it a good clean, but the next steps are to get my engine into it and get it started then it can be moved around and can be bought back to my house to do chassis jobs and refit the interior.

I’ve spent £500 on parts today! All the engine service kit and various seals, a tensioner kit etc so the engine itself can be dressed and put in, then all the other stuff done around it.

happy with the carpet for what effort went in with the Vax carpet cleaner
