Off to Donington for classic bike track day tomorrow. Thought I’d post this as it’s on topic twice over. There’s even a bin if you look closely!
Picked up some retro wheels that needed a bit of fettling. Rain stopped play. Coming soon to a Mini near me!
I’m so tempted to buy myself another R53 to run the back roads to the train station and back… I NEED talking out of this… I’ve found a tidy Check mate, which is what I want really… so tempted
damn it….. ♂️ My mate has an early one that he picked up for £300 with rattling timing chain, he’s a mechanic and reckons he could throw another engine in it for me and it would still be super cheap fun… but we will see
Yeah, do it Phil. My old R53 was a checkmate with the full factory JCW kit. Such a brilliant little car.
Just fitted a new clutch to my sons Cooper, not a fun experience. You basically take half the car to pieces.
Have been considering buying one of these as a winter track bitch slightly concerned I’ll get the bug again though and end up with a race car though
Compared to the worst things that could happen to you, buying a Mini, using it as a track hack and then getting a race car - all sounds pretty good!
haha yeah my gearbox went on my 2001 cooper at 40k miles (it’s a midlands/rover/Peugeot mash up I’m told) and I remember the mechanic having all sorts of issues getting the box out!!!! The 6 speed getrag box in the S is a WAY better gearbox
My wifes 1st Mini that set us on course to owning 4 Mini's, from a Cooper to a Cooper S to two JCW's. This is Daisy, a CVT automatic (names all her cars). Now sadly gone .
Upsets me a bit when people show turbo minis on this thread I dunno. The original supercharged minis just had something about them! No doubting the newer models are WAY better (with the exception of the PSA doom engine models) but I just love the originals. I actually have my sisters 16 plate clubman in a few weeks, it’s a standard ‘s’ with auto 8 speed box and it’s a weapon tbf but they aren’t as edgy and alive as the originals
