Lets talk 2013 Touring, Pikes Peak and Touring GT screens

Discussion in 'Multistrada' started by Phantomfighter, Apr 2, 2013.

  1. Well as long as you are happy with it and are getting the noise less ride that I am. Then It's all good.

  2. I have the C3 Pro, ACS Custom plugs and the Puig sport screen, couldn't be happier with the result

  3. Absolutely!

More for the benefit of others as some take a punt mail order. Im just saying be careful on size.

  4. Just to add the C3 and the C3 Pro fit differently, so try on before you take a punt, the Pro is an amazing lid IMO

  5. Bumped into a seasoned MTS rider yesterday at my dealer's demo day yesterday. He had the GT screen and didn't think it made that much difference; he just liked the tint!

But he reckoned he has found, Ze Final Solution!

Wunderlich universal screen extension - clear (WUN-8110025) - Nippy Normans

He's only used it on the GT screen, but thinks it should work with the standard as he actually dropped the screen height. 85mph open face.

  6. Tried the screen extension on a whole day rideout today. Makes a hell lot of difference.. Set it to lowest and when screen is completely raised, eliminated head buffeting completely. Wind noise was toned down. Could hear music really well through moulded plugs.

Taller riders could have it extended higher. Quality brushed aluminum fittings. No need to change whole screen.

  7. Which screen extension are you talking about?

  8. Wunderlich universal screen extension. See link from post just before.

Yes I know, its a BMW site...

  9. Firstly the 2013 screen IS much better than the 2101 screen - BUT - I have been trying out the Wunderlich Defector for a few weeks and it does make for a quieter ride. Photo below is the deflector on a GT screen fitted to a 2013 1200S[IMG] BUT I would not use it all the time (it easy to fit / remove just 2 allen screws) For long trips it is definitely worth using, less noise, no turbulence just an easier ride. On shorter rides I prefer the look and feel or the standard screens. I have both the GT tinted and the clear standard screen. The deflector add-on does prove a point (IMO) - the Ducati screens need to have a lip at the top to deflect wind up and over the rider to get that quiet long distance comfort. If you look at the photo you can see that the Ducati screen has no lip at the top just a straight profile all the way to the top of the screen. I would expect after-market 2013 screens to have a flip-up lip moulded in at the top of the screen and I may well go that route in the future. As ever in search of that elusive perfect bike that I know doesn't exist - the 2013 MTS 1200S is however VERY close!

  10. I found the answer to the noise issue was R&G self-mould earplugs. Brilliant. I've also invested in a soon-to-arrive Shoei GT Air. I put my tinnitus down to using an Arai RX7 Corsair without earplug whe riding a noisy Speed Triple. We shall see. If I still have a problem with buffeting I will go the deflector route. Regardless, the Multi is the best bike I've ever owned - even at running-in speeds - and I've owned a good few "classics".

  11. I have not noticed any problem with moving my head about laterally when riding with the deflector fitted, it seems to create a good clear quiet area behind the screen. I use a Schuberth C3 Helmet and have moulded plugs from Ultimate Ear, with the deflector fitted I can ride good distances (50 miles ish) with no plugs and the visor up at 70+ (not that I do that normally). On longer faster 100+mile trips I would use the ear plugs as well just to ensure ear protection and reduce fatigue. The Wunderlich deflector is no beauty but that MRA one looks a bit big and clunky, it may work well but looks to need holes in the screen to fit whilst the Wunderlich uses a clamp system and so can be removed leaving a standard screen with no holes in it.

  12. I have a GT screen and didn't find the buffeting too bad at first 600-mile running-in speeds - sub 108mph (6,000 rpm in top).

  13. I would be interested to hear your feedback on the Shoei GT Air, just thinking about this helmet too..?

  14. Me too! :)

  15. You best not get same colour as me!! Haha

  16. Didn't really try to do much Marc Marquez style hanging off, general leaning, blindspot checking and slight hanging off is ok. The stock screen is quite good for sidewinds anyway.

I wear a Boorman style Tour X3 with the peak on at all times. No buffeting. the acid test will be with a GoPro sticking on top of my head. But had to send the screen back as they sent me the wrong colour. Will post more later.

As for the MRA, am I wrong in that it is a whole replacement screen + spoiler? the good thing about the Wunderlich is that as Veetwin says, you can remove it when not required to restore the sleek look. the stock screen does look the business. Dropping it down makes it great to navigate urban or actual jungle trails. And of course, its transferable from bike to bike, making it a good investment.

  17. Two days in and first impressions of the GT Air are pretty favourable. It is extremely comfortable and quiet, when worn with moulded earplugs anyway. i haven't done many miles on my Multistrada wearing it yet as it is in for its first service but riding Metropolis's demo Hypermotard 1198 (thanks Damiano) while they worked on it was a blast. I could hear that gorgeous exhaust note enough but wind noise was negligible. The helmet has quite a deep chin curtain that may help in this respect. I got the Journey design that matches Ducati Anniversary Red pretty well (thanks Shoei). The helmet retails for £479 but a dealer on eBay supplied mine for £399 with free postage. I've had Shoeis and Arais before but this is far and away the best helmet I've owned. I will update when if put some miles in wearing it on the Multistrada.

  18. Did you opt for a genuine Ducati screen or an aftermarket one? I can concur that my new Shoei GT Air is much quieter than my old Arai RX 7.

  19. I have just purchased a Shoei GT Air and can confirm it is a superb helmet. Quiet, fits superbly and the quality of finish is first class.

I'm in the process of trying to make up my mind about buying a Multi or not. Part of me thinks its more bike than i need at the moment. i need a long test ride to make up my mind.

I can't help feeling all this talk of screens that owners are trying to turn it into a bike that it isn't i.e a Grandtourer.
