Light, Compact, Essential And Fun: Ducati Presents The New Monster

Discussion in 'Front Page Articles' started by El Toro, Dec 2, 2020.

  1. Anyone else picking up MV Agusta vibes ?

  2. Ok the jury's out on this one but if they sell all their first & second allocations straight away next year, then they've done something right in the above format and if not....back to the drawing board for round two.

  3. It’s certainly cheaper to make; ditch trellis frame = weight saving and cost of manufacture.
Helpful when bikes are being forced to be heavier due to Euro 5 etc.
There’s no excuse for bland design though. It’s just lazy.

  4. I like it,......there I’ve said it !

And I think one of the reasons I like it is they have ditched the trellis frame, I’m not a lover of them, makes a bike look like an engine stuck in a set of aluminium stepladders, that’s one of the reasons why I like my Panigale, Aluminium frame does wonders to tidy the design up, hides loads of wires and cables etc.

To me, the current Monster just looks so dated already....

Perhaps you’d like the new one more if there were a few wires and block connectors hanging out here and there ?

There’s a lot to like on the new one, I watched the introduction video last night and the headlamp looks really cool when you switch it on, the TFT dash looks great and to me it looks a really stylish new generation for the Monster.

Put it like this, if you stood the new one and the last current production one side by side, I bet 90% of you would choose the new one

Anyhow, I have no interest in buying any Monster,.........they’re all girls bikes;):joy::joy:!!!

  5. The present Monster looks brutal. The new one looks like it would drink a skinny latte.
Next thing you know it will have bluetooth connectivity so you can order your coffee on the way to the cafe.
    Oh. Wait...
    Everyone to their own.

  6. Can only echo this really. It is shockingly un-Ducati, never mind shockingly un-Monster. I think any pre-2021 Monster just appreciated.

  7. just look at the mess Harley are in now because of that short sightedness

  8. If they want to sell Jap clones, then they will need to match Jap prices and drop things 15-20%.
Really disappointing aesthetics regardless of the tech advances.

  9. Don’t think there is really a Japanese equivalent. It’s aimed at the Street Triple/KTM 890 market.

  10. The Japanese equivalent is the Yamaha MT-09.

  11. And the MT-10 which is marketed as a “Hyper Naked”. Andy

  12. Looks fine to me, seems every bike Ducati release gets a hard time, I remember the stick on here the 899 Panigale got when it was released, what no sssa it must be shit, how wrong was that. Things move on and often not for the better, I for one have moved away from Ducati in recent times as the pricing is getting silly for a brand that is not as special as it used to be, still got a couple in the garage tho.

  14. I’ll try and be more specific next time lol.
It’s shit. Mrs horseburger will be keeping her current monster for a while yet and don’t get me started on the multistrada.

  15. Just noticed the TSSA too. So looks like Ducati are ditching that all together soon. Wil Panigale be the only one left with that concept or will they be next on the restyle front?

  16. The 821 didn’t have a single swinger either, you just couldn’t see under those twin golf bag exhausts

  17. Personally I tried 1200, 821 and 797 Monsters recently and I thought the 797 was the most fun to ride and also the closest to a real original Monster.
I actually thought the 821 and 1200 were very bland.

  18. Personally I think it looks fine, I hope the 9.5Nm torque quoted above is a typo though! :)

  19. Somehow they have managed to produce a finished bike that actually looks worse than the pre-production prototype seen in the spy shots. :D

Current 821, money well spent. :upyeah:

  20. I really like this new Monster, especially in matt grey/red wheels. However I've got an MT09 in the same colours and this may explain why I like it. Very very similar styled bikes. Showed wifey pic of new Monster, she reckoned it was my bike in the garage.
