  11. Sorry if I'm being thick - on a standard SS/Supersport (carby) is the basket alloy?
Can I just swap the Duc plates out for the Suzuki ones then smoothly ride off into the sunset?

  12. They have dropped in price! They were £38 when I bought mine!

  13. l left my 888 out the other night no plate sticking as yet
    no slippage either
and you get a spare plate in the suzuki kit buy six sets and over time you will have enough left over to make another
    result

  14. CORRECT STEVE! Those Suzuki plates are suspect (to say the least) if not run in oil. How do I know?
I fitted those Suzuki plates and also clean plain steel plates and went on a run from Plymouth out to the Ermington Valley (lovely bit of Ducati road that) and back and I noticed that occasionally the gear change was a bit clunky. I've just pulled the plates out to have a look and lo and behold all of the plain steel plates are now coated in a surface skin of friction material from the Suzuki plates which gives the appearance of rust. There is no way any moisture got in the clutch.
I know a number of our forum members have bought these and fitted them, my advice would be to take them out and chuck them away.
I've had to order a set of Ducati plates at an eye watering price but no more cheapos for me, the bikes are too good to muck about like that.

  15. Thanks for letting us know your experience with the suzuki plates.
I ordered a set the other day and they arrived today. I was planning to fit them tonight so I could go out for a play on Sunday. My basket is as bad as the one in this thread. I thinking I might just bite the bullet and go with Rich at louigi moto advice and have him fit me a sigma slipper with 1198 plates, bullet proof apparently :)
There is an Italian company www.kbike.it that are selling some nice looking kit very cheap. If its all proper billet and not machined up cast, they look cracking value. Not so if it blows itself to bits in 5 minutes though.

The £80 baskets on ebay look ok but I'm a bit hesitant about them as well.

I suppose the saying "you get what you pay for" app even applies to ducati clutches.

At least I can transplant the sigma into a 1098 or 1198, which would most likely be my next Ducati. I'll still keep the 999 whatever happens.

    Cheers

    Deaks :)

  16. thanks alan, the clutch Mr R was talking about was mine, i didnt clean the steel plates before i put them in, they looked ok, where prob in the bike in my garage a fortnight and some where stuck together, resulting in no clutch, stripped and cleaned a fortnight ago, prob only done a hundred miles or so on 3 rides local, but seem ok so far lol, thanks for the heads up on yours.

hows everyone elses been and how long in, how many miles?

  17. Darren's SS has done 2k on the suzi plates no issues-well it was fine this morning
my 888 has done riughly the same milage no probs apart from neutral a bit difficult to get when stopped no really an issue snick it in coming to a halt
not sure what the buid up on the plain plates may be l cleaned mine off before fitting they had some preservative stuff on them out of the packet
    regards Steve B

  18. Mine arrived today although I'm now a bit reticent about fitting them after reading Alan's comments, although I'll probably have a go and see how they behave. Doubt I'll be able to return them anyway.

  19. I fitted a set of thesr newfren plates in my 999 last year, seem fine after about 1,000+ miles, no issues. I got mine from Germany but these are cheaper from UK. There's a rumour they're the same manufacturer as OE.
