This one looks like most of the weight saving work has already been done. It also looks like it would kill you in your sleep though.
Remember that spiny roundy weight is worth a billion times more than static weight. So wheels, tyres, chain and so on are what's best targeted...
Are you sure those weights are right? Didnt think 848 and 1098 were different weights. Fronts swap straight over... Another thing is tyres, some are bery heavy compared to others so chuck the wrong tyres on the right wheels and back to sq 1!
I'm happy with the 848 engine for now, I love the way it revs and you can get on the power out of the corners without worrying about the torque over coming my lack of talent........... and I can't be doing all of that TC business, when I crash I want it to be completely my fault..........
Yep.... Lose them completely.... I did a few sets a while back for friends & dabbled on ebay for a while... Simple case of drilling the rivets out... Coring the cat (or cutting the thing out completely)... I used 3" perforated in mine for a deeper rumble but 2.5 is the norm (same as Akra & Termi)... Pack it out with decent packing... Seal it.... Rivet it back up... Get its ECU properly mapped & Bobs yer uncle.... Sounds a huge pain in the hoop but still a lot cheaper than Termis etc..... Only other thing to add is be careful on the DB levels if you go down the cat-less route....
Out of idle curiosity...Anyone know what the 848 engine weighs? Then compared to a 916 unit? :Bookworm:
If you're on a budget, as already said, binning all the road stuff, lights, horn, fan, switchgear can be a nice freebee. A light flywheel isn't too dear, saves some weight and will get the engine spinning up a bit faster too. Race wheels will make the biggest single difference to the whole bike though.
At the risk of repeating myself....I would consider £200 money well spent on a ali sub-frame. When I was putting my bitsa together I couldn't believe how heavy the oem lumpen part was!
And the other thing, of course, is the rider. How many kilos could be shaved off that? If it required a fitness programme it might keep you out of winter trouble, although it probably isn't as fun as fitting bling (a lot cheaper though, and has other benefits).
