Lithium Batteries And My Trip To Snells Ducati.

Discussion in 'Ducati General Discussion' started by WAYNE, Sep 21, 2020.

  1. Oh, page 5, what’s it about? :eyes:

  2. Why not something that plugs into the OEM wiring like so: https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Mosfet-R...-1098-1099-1198-1000-Multistrada/164349848387

  3. Good point although, most lithium batteries these days have the necessary circuitry inside that allow them to be charged by normal rectifiers or battery conditioners that are designed for the regular lead-acid type.

I've run several (JMT, Power Thunder) on different bikes (GSX-R1000 K7, 2007 R6) without any issues and kept them on a battery conditioner every day.

Would that particular rectifier not be for the ultra lightweight racing ones?

  4. I don't know about the racing ones but i do have the JMT in my 900sss ie and had no issues but i am going down the lithium specific R/R on my 996.:upyeah:

  5. You haven't read the full thread or many of the other threads I don't think  - yes they do have protection - just like the market leading one on post #012 on the link below...

  6. Some topics are annoying to see continuous discussions on, this topic however deserves every thread it gets as bikes keep changing hands and new owners should be made aware of this real risk.

My girlfriend loves hot pants, but not that hot pants!

The hot-pants photos stay in my private stash, but I'll share a few bike pics!

  9. There is the "search" button....this topic has been caned to death and not only that discussions have gotten very heated (pardon the pun) there is the for and against and both have vigorously defended their reasoning....this thread will only play that out again...

  10. I understand your point and since my bike burned down I've contributed on other forums to similar threads. But people can't search for something they don't know exist or I would not have had a bike burn down :) luckily my girl was wearing leathers.

I expect moderators will lock threads that boil beyond reason. It's your bike and people can do what they want, all we can offer is information we have.

Ultimately this particular issue is so dangerous I'd call it an egregious design flaw on Ducati's part considering how affordable and ubiquitous MOSFET R/Rs have been for decades.

  11. Personally id say its hit or miss.....my rsv4 has had the same Lithium battery in it for 8 years, My z1000 6 years and my Hyper 5 years....all on the same batteries and all not a problem.
