Yep, you are not far from pegasus bridge when you disembark. As Lightning said, the maisy battery is a great visit, although my misses had a strange supernatural experience there that left us both (and the dog) wondering what had just happened, really. We have been a few years on the trot now and always stay at colleville sur mer. We love the area and the beach plus its quite central for all the other venues. We also like to spend time at port en bessin where the british commando,s went in on D Day, including my friends father. There is a good scene in the longest day which was filmed at Port En Bessin. Loads to see, lots to do, friendly people and generally traffic free roads. Oh and the Leffe is very cheap at the supermarket too. Where are you staying Paul? I am envious.
Staying just on the outskirts of Caen Found out a sad story researching my grandfathers ship , in the evening of D day as it returned to England to reload . In the dark it hit a landing craft that was returning sinking it and killing the crew ,,tragedy Hms Rodney was my grandads ship had massive guns that bombarded the beach heads and other targets

he was a boy sailor joined under age before the war and stayed in the duration of the war various roles didnt rise very high up the ranks the Rodney had the biggest guns in the fleet 16" and he was in one of the guns when they sunk the Bismark . d- day he said they fired all day long until they run out of shells for 4 or 5 day in a row blowing tiger tanks inside out and to bits 16" shells did some massive damage reports stated
