Not so far this season, couple of moment but not a great deal else, two or three early laps, maybe a lap pr two towards the end and thats it. But thats racing...you can only beat who else is on the grid and the machinery they are on
Lorenzo made it a thrilling season last year, I don't understand why anyone could complain about it. Doesn't look like he'll repeat it this season, but then we've got a load of brits to cheer on.
Absolutely. I saw a picture of Schwantz, Rainey etc from back in the day, all on their push bikes. Not pretty. The young guys are much fitter. The same has happened in all, sports, be that F1, football or rugby.
These modern bikes are just like twist and go scooters and almost the weight of a burgman. Infact watching a one make burgman championship might be more exciting and fun !
Yeh you'd much rather see the grid girls on the pushbikes. A world lambretta championship? do they have any electronics on them? Who else thought lorenzo looked far too startled when his bike took off...sure there's no one behind the pit wall with a slotcar controller??
Thanks for pointing the winglets out i'd forgotton they ran those.I was thinking i hope it does'nt get to the f1 stage where there's little close racing/dicing and the big excitement is when somebody gets passed in the pits, how arrestingly entertaining is that.Unless there is a software malfunction (far less likely than a human one) no one is going to miss a gear, far less likely to outbrake themselves or get flicked over the high side for doing something called racing, this has turned into a corporate circus.Lets just kill the whole thing and start a souped up lambretta world championship with open faced helmets and johnny reb boots.Obviously you would have mandatory drug testing before the race and be very hungry by the time you finished it,that should rule out the softcocks and we can change the rules as we go along just like they do now!
Just remembered: A great time at Donington watching a young Wayne Gardner wrestle a Moriwaki Kawasaki around. Brilliant riding, and very exciting to watch. A number of racers came to the fore riding sit up & beg naked superbikes back in the 70s & 80s. Crosby, Lawson & Spencer all took this route. The top riders are all natural competitors, and today's crop would probably jump at the chance to bash elbows on high-barred unfaired superbikes. However sponsorship, media & team management control would probably prevent them doing so.
It's great to see that happening even at lambretta speeds, did'nt he break a leg pre season doing something similar? Yes rudolph i remember those days, fun racing to watch. What i was saying is a bit tongue in cheek (mine not yours) but fair go is it still that exciting that you would sit up in the early hours and watch it knowing you'll be shagged for work the next day? not me most times.Ok mm is supremely talented and is very popular, rightly so.Lorenzo always looks like he has a severe case of intestinal gas that is about to double him over in pain and endanger the pit crew, not to mention the leathers. There's a rumour doing the rounds that the factory yamaha techs secretly arrive at the track around midnight (like fairies) the day before everyone else gets there, and by using last years track data, lay a slot car type invisible to the naked eye virtual groove down for him.He never gets off it plus it's rumoured there may be two or three other people controlling the bike behind pit wall. What's the bet next year they get a software guy who specialises in personality to update lorenzo's outlook on life and spectators,or maybe they will copy mm's,hows that for some variation not The op's post was a good question and i've very much liked reading everyones opinion but for me it's getting as boring as batshit. Please feel free to disagree i don't take it personally it's good to hear what other people think.Any ideas on how to pep it up a bit? failing that i'm onto google, lets see if a world series scooter racing circus is on the cards, now that i'd stay up for ps as far as selling showroom bikes off the back of all the moto gp classes moto3 is by far the most important.
