I'm going to buy a horse and cart. Their design has hardly changed in centuries and therefore must be near perfect by now.
Do we seriously think that because it was designed and manufactured by a well known brand it was designed perfectly, or even adequately for that matter? Is the issue likely to trouble most people that own these, unlikely, but that doesnt mean it isnt a suboptimal and cant be improved. IMHO VAG (including porsche) have made some absolute howling design and manufacturering blunders/compromises over the last couple of decades with equally simple stuff that the industry have had working perfectly well for years; piston rings that coke up, oil pump drives that shear, scored cylinder bores, bearing failures that destroy the engine. And VAG are by no means unique in this respect. There's a massive aftermarket based on 'improving' bikes and cars, and in many cases making them worse and less powerful than when we bought them. Does a termi can on a mts improve an 'issue' in any measurable way? Did it cost a packet? probably. Is it scoffed at, unlikely.
Can’t say I’ve ever worried about temp except air cooled bikes or my 911 996 (which I’m overly paranoid about!). Fair play to op for, whether needed or not, ‘solving’ the problem himself
I run MS 1260 s gt which runs at low temperature. I have developed a new thermostat housing with a replaceable thermostat. Now I drive with a 70 degree thermostat and the engine runs better with a slightly higher temperature. Should switch to 80 degree thermostat which I think will work perfectly in our climate. Usually covers the radiator, but then it will get hot with city driving. It will be unnecessary with this thermostat housing
Interesting indeed. Would be nice if this is transferred into a commercially available solution at some point.
This is a prototype, the product has the same dimension as the original part. Just loosen the clamps and replace with the original thermostat housing. Thermostat can be bought on ebay, AliExpress ...
Thank you Kjell, You say "this is a prototype" is it something that you have made? or something adapted from another piece of plumbing? I see the embossed lettering DT 002 but haven't found anything similar on the net. Please enlighten us further.
So if you replace the original housing with this one, what is different about your part? What does it cost compared to the OEM part?
