It is something you get used to. When I first rode my 999 home, it felt as though opening the throttle at all would chuck me off the back, so instant was the throttle response. Eventually though, your muscle memory kicks in and you do get much better at applying the right amount of throttle in a given situation. It felt like something I'd never get used to but I did and even bought the recommended R1 throttle tube that allows you to get full throttle without dislocating your wrist...
