V4 Luggage Options

Discussion in 'Multistrada' started by ymfb, Nov 12, 2021.

  1. It is also valid, I have checked it with a friend, in fact, any Givi topcase that is Monokey is valid

  2. My mrs comes on the back with me so need to have the luggage option for my upcoming PP especially as am meant to be doing 2 weeks on IOM assuming bike turns up! :-( She does also have her own bike in the garage GSXR750L2 but has developed arthritus in her thumbs which has rendered her bike riding days over. She cant bring herself to get rid of the bike though but likes having the top box behind here when we are 2 up. When out alone top box will be left in the garage with her bike :)

  3. Not up for the plastic Ducati panniers? I had them come with the travel and radar option. If I wanted to expand/extra volume I would just add the top box.

Something I didn't know until it arrived is that the rear mount hole either side for the side panniers are connected to each other under/through the seat with a floating bag support and allow for synchronous movement to reduce the effects of high speed wobble/unstability. Not sure how aftermarket or framed mounting would use this? I can confirm, I have tested this feature.

  4. I’ve got a few “vacuum seal” bags (I think that’s what you call them) and they massively reduce the volume that clothes take up in your luggage, I did a week away with a Kriega 10 + 20 using them, I now just use a Givi 30l roll bag as it’s much easier to get things in and out of and just lash it to the tail with waterproofs in a plastic bag under it (no pillion obvs)

  5. Here’s my day to day rear bag. Perfect for odds & sods, and very discreet.

  9. Blimey, how much did you pack?! I can get a weeks worth of kit into my US30.

  10. I have a Mosko Moto Scout 30L duffle, which is compact, completely waterproof and works with a days stuff or a weeks worth. More like a traditional bag, although same roll over closure as the Kriega stuff (which I rate massively), but for me, easier to get at things.

The beavertail contraption allows stuff to be added to the outside, of the bag and remain secure, so waterproofs, tent etc can all pile onto the bag. It is also covered with Molle webbing, so adding on is also simple. I have a small 2L pouch I use for chain cleaner/lube/water/disk lock

Since the photo, I've added an OEM rear luggage rack to give me more room and improved lashing points and whipped the pannier brackets off the bike now, but only a 5 minute job to reattach. That said, I expect never to use them. For more than a week, panniers can go on, but with clever packing I can't see the need to have more luggage than this and coming from a GS with more empty boxes than Aldi on a Saturday afternoon, it's a revelation.

Note: I am a highly stylish chap, so clever packing doesn't mean two old M&S tee shirts and one pair of undies...
