M.o.t Failure

  1. time of test thing.
    would you want the tester and garage to lose his/hers/theres livelihood because of such a minor issue?.

  2. As long as they're road legal tanks you'll be fine.
     
  3. The wording is unclear to many and that could include the guy whose business/ job might depend upon it. So its easy to see why they fail the bikes.
     
  4. Some bikes don't have a seat cowl available either by the manufacturer or a 3rd party. You may wish to remove pillion pegs for aesthetic reasons. Just because there is a pillion seat does not mean you intend to carry a pillion.

  6. Your right but the MOT man doesn't know that your not going to carry a pillion
     
  7. Surely the "offence" should be carrying a pillion without having properly attached footrests, not not having the footrests just in case you should carry said pillion?

  9. Same as built in indicators or removing mirror. That may be done for preference or aesthetics but come MOT time it needs to be 'proper'
     
  10. Could you argue by reason of insurance, that as your not insured to carry a passenger its immaterial whether passenger footrests or seat are fitted as it is illegal for you to carry one anyway :bucktooth:

  12. You don't need mirrors to pass the MOT and you don't need indicators either however if you have them fitted and they dont work its a fail which I understand.

  14. I understood that after a certain date (70 or 80 something) if the bike came fitted as standard with indicators and mirrors they had to be fitted. I get you may be talking daytime MOT stuff, but probably means all wiring etc cannot be there. And you cannot use at night, or poor visibility day. Which you;d be while out riding ;)
     
  15. Ricky gets a day time MOT on one of his bikes still has all the switch gear for indicators and lights. I'm pretty sure you dont need either to pass MOT no indicators you can use hand signals, no mirrors you look over your shoulder so it can't be deemed as being unsafe. on the other hand if fitted and dont work you could confuse the drivers (indicators) and if mirrors are fitted but cracked it can hinder your vision when using them.

    For Christ's sake. Please find yourself a friendly MOT tester and stop clogging the forum up with the wittering. It's becoming annoying. We have all given variously good and sympathetic advice. Either fix your bike, change testers or take up golf.

    The point I was making is just because a pillion seat is fitted doesnt mean you will take a pillion, you can get insurance with or without taking pillion they dont ask if you have a pillion seat :p

    Its not my bike, mine have neither pillion seat or pegs these days just a mate was advised to fit pegs for MOT or get a cowl by his dealer which is the same one I use. I thought he was just trying to persuade the poor guy to buy a cowl at £150

  19. Doesn't matter. My bikes have MOTs and pass their MOT without exception because:

    I prep well, based on the manual.
    I have a tester who knows I value my life and limbs more than an A4 printout.

    So either follow the rules or look silly... and don't ride your un-MOT'd bike.
