M900 Cutting Out

  1. A kinked breather hose will cause fuel starvation due to a vacuum forming in the tank but the vacuum would normally take a little while to form, so imho wouldn't initially prevent the motor from revving

  2. A quick test is to just undo the fuel cap. But you're most probably right. :)

  3. Outboard motors tend to have breathers on the tank that you can open and close.
    Classic scenario is for hapless owner to start motor, go buzzing off only for the motor to cut out after a couple of hundred yards.
    Owner has no idea why motor stopped but everyone on the bank knows exactly why...

  4. I have to confess to doing just this. Borrowed my Dad's dinghy/tender to take my Son around the port.

    Engine cut out after a couple of minutes, it seemed like it had run out of fuel so I opened the cap to look and there was plenty. Of course having opened the cap it would start again because the pressure was released - repeated the procedure a couple of times before I realised... :blush:
