That was a great season to watch, shame that Max got black flagged for over taking on a yellow which handed Doohan the title. Erv Kamamoto 500 was a better bike than Repsols. JB learnt alot from Erv when he ran the factory rothmans team. The good old days :smile:

Of course what you say about the technology is true ... and I think everyone agrees that the 800s make for less exciting racing than the 990s and the 500s (the most exciting IMHO - but that was what I grew up with - I think we all see 'our era' through rose tinted spectacles to some extent). What I am marvelling at is just what the latest tyres and technology can do, and MM's ability to exploit it to such extremes, so quickly. He is indeed ON IT ... I really hope he keeps it the right way up.
Yeah it was. I must admit I was on the Mick side of the Mick V Biaggi debate so I was stoked when Mick won.
Think most people were on mick's side. Not many liked biaggi's attitude(not doubting his speed though)
MM didn't fall off a lot in M2... where all the others were going all over the place... he could be quit some surprise... if only Casey was there, what a line up!
Retired from the race after running wide and striking the wall, knackering the front left. He should have stuck to the bikes and thats from a Stoner fan :smile:
Well, it's early days. Let's not be hasty. You have a clear point though. Will the special skill he had on a bike which made him better than his adversaries, to whit the ability to feel grip and to get the thing to go where he wanted by careful weight shifting, transfer over to the 4 wheeled world? What I mean is, he may well make a very good car driver, but will his bike abilities enable him to get ahead of the guys who have been car racing for years? I wouldn't put money on it. Suspect he'll be good but not great.
Found the V8 site in Aus. He races in the support v8 dunlop series. Turns out they have 2 races and stoner crashed out in the first. This put him back of the grid for the 2nd and he managed to finish 14. Imho thats good going in a v8 beast to pass lots of cars to get to that position. No surtees, hailwood or Rossi on 4 wheels but not bad. Looking at the pics and interviews he gave he looks well happy and chilled. Was motogp really that bad?
Car racing is just like bike racing in the respect that there are lots of men who can do it, but only a few who excel at it. I would love to see him work his was to the top, but as you pointed out, its still very early days. It took him ten years to get to the top in bike racing
