I've met a fair few politicians through work. Most of them were complete bell ends. However, when Tony Blair was PM he heard one of the guys was leaving the team and made the effort to stop and say thanks to him for all his hard work. He was obviously a very busy man, but he made the time for a chat despite his minions protesting. He earned a lot of respect that day, but maybe not for his policies!
The best celeb I've ever met is Peter Alliss, the voice of golf commentary. In a former life as a painter and decorator I spent 6 months round his house, initially on a 4 week contract to paint an extension. In that time I went from a dodgy 24 handicap to a sound 14 handicap, had lunch with nick Faldo, upset (and consequently got pissed with) Lee Trevino, and went to an amazing party with his neighbours' daughters. Whohappened to be 21 year old blond twins...female ones at that!
Jim Bowen - all round nice guy. Came onboard a ship I was serving on that happened to be anchored off Torquay where Jim was doing his show at the theatre. He spent all afternoon drinking, left (as we thought) pretty wrecked having handed out some free tickets. He was on stage a couple of hours later and did a cracking show. Really funny guy, and also very genuine and down-to-earth...
The west end cast of The Commitments. They Took time to chat and were genuinely interested and seemed grateful that we'd taken time to wait and talk to them. They may not be particularly well known but that film and music is what started my gigging career so meant a hell of a lot to me. Awesome. I danced with Glenn Miller's nephew as he was running the band at an event several years ago, that was special too.
