A friend of mine bought a Ferrari 308 - which was always my dream car - remember that poster with it, a bottle of Bordeaux and Natasha Kinski? Well I got to drive it and it's true: never meet your heroes. It is truly awful: noisy, cramped, hot and stuffy, awkward, a clutch so heavy you honestly think something must be broken, obstructive gear change. The worst bit is it's not even fast. They only had two hundred and something horses when new, this one is forty years old now and probably has fewer horses than a modern Renault Clio. I was glad to hand it back to him. Looks lovely parked up though.
Had the car thing happen.Wife's relative came round in a 911 4s & took me for a spin, was distinctly underwelmed. Which was a shame as always loved the shape. Sounded like a (loud) vw beatle & performance was average, friends old sapphire cozie felt much faster. He offered me a go & said no as slightly hungover.
