  1. Got some of the fibre glass back on, front fender bolts and fairing stays. Remembered I sent those brackets away for re-galvanising weeks ago, so better chase them up.

  3. So did you figure out what the issue with the front wheel not fitting was then?

Are you going to be running it air filter less then?

  4. Not a conclusive explanation, probably my lack of talent with spanners, but the spindle is now tight and the discs spin cleanly. The speedo drive is broken, so new drive and spacers.

I like that open carb look, but have the ugly air filters in reserve.

  5. I have heard some people who do run them without a filter spray/clean/wipe out the carb after every ride i.e. the slide, needle & inlet :astonished:

  6. Ran mine as my only form of transport for 4 years, and never cleaned them out. Used to have to drain the front bowl of water during winter when snow got in the carb and melted

  7. I've owned my (now seriously tuned) '79 900SS from new, covering well over 135,000 miles and I've never used air filters.
We don't live in a dusty enough climate to actually need them IMO.
I've rode over the Alps, under the Alps, down to the Med', Holland, Belgium, Luxembourg, Germany, Italy, France and Spain many, many times on the old nail...
...and still don't feel the need to strangle the performance by saddling the old girl with air filers, or spray them or clean them out after every time I use the bike.
For the last 25 years I've run her with smooth bore 41mm rubber mounter Dellorto race carbs.

  8. That's a lot of miles, impressive. I seem to recall my 1979 Le Mans Mk I had giant "pump" throttles and bell mouths and no one seemed worried about ingesting particles, rodents or indeed my nether parts.

  9. Your Mk1 Le Mans had rather small 36mm pumpers, the Ducati MHR/SS's had 40mm pumpers.
But if you're going fast enough the accelerator pumps aren't needed and result in a lighter pull throttle.

  10. Indeed. I have not had the opportunity yet to pump the MHR 40mm yet, but hopefully now everything has been inspected it won't be too long.

  11. Just ordered new bellmouths, rev counter cable and sump filter, but really struggling to find the speedo drive unit and cable. Any thoughts?

  12. It is and may explain the wobbly re-assemble issues. Spoke to Doug at Mdina, where the last parts order came form, and he is out of drives.

Thanks, I will try Stein Dinse, their website looks properly old school :(

  13. It looks Stein Dinse are out of stock of the drives also - so there's that last (expensive) one in the states from the ebay listing.
