  1. Thanks, Andy! I've got your permission now to pay no attention :upyeah:

  2. you can even quote me as saying its not the speed thats the issue........its the quality of the control, or lack of it due to a variety of reasons that causes the collisions.

However the only and easy way to control it is to make a speed limit, take the speed out reduce the risk....

  3. And again, I am deeply disturbed by the level of agreement we have on this issue.

  4. shit..me too and i hate agreeing with andyb....

on the dbl de clutch thing, i have for many years blipped the throttle on the car...i started doing it when my IAM instructor advised me to do it when changing down for uphill gradients...so anyway, i started doing it all the time....and its great..in my current dad wagon (mazda6) it requires a generous right foot because the engine revs slowly, but the Scooby just used to purr like a bike...ive never had clutch issues and have got it down so that the gear changes are seamless...hell, i'll own up to toe and heeling it quite often...a skill that is not easy to master, but produces great down shifts, and not necessarily when driving 'progressively'...youve got to get the technique down, and tbh its not really a road driving technique (coz its easy to fekk up and end up pumping the brake)..but like all these things, theres a time and a place (the track arguably)...
The biggest thing to nail down is observation, observation, observation, and driving with a systematic approach..this makes everything 'fit', and puts you in charge, especially when driving an unfamiliar vehicle..my second mantra is road positioning..good road positioning helps with rule 1, and helps to keep the traffic flowing for other road users, in addition to keeping you out of harms way...IPSGA all the way.

  5. if you want to get half a dozen together one evening ill show you some of the presentation stuff i use at work....

  6. You can send me the Powerpoint file if you like. I won't be able to make it, bit would be happy to be wiser.

  7. Traveling back from Bristol on Saturday evening and the M18 was almost empty. In the distance, about a mile away I could see one car. Well I soon caught up to it. Not wanting to undertake I had had to pull from the inside lane to the outside to get by this guy!

  8. I'm sure it's just as illegal/dangerous to take a photograph whilst driving

  9. In my opinion, anyone who sits in the middle lane of an empty motorway - like the one in ResB1199's photograph - should be charged with "without due care and attention" as it is baltantly obvious that they are not paying attention ( or really don't care ).

  11. Yup, crap drivers drive crap cars.

  12. Funny that, cos I undertook a plethora of Mercs, Beemers and Jags on my way to Coventry this morning...

  13. And Audis, before you 'new money' types start...

  14. they don't like it up em!

  15. Following a big Merc tractor thingy, and he's literally millimetres behind the car that's holding him up, the car eventually pulls over and the merc speeds up, now with an Astra van right up his arse cos he's doing exactly the same as the car he was just harrassing...I got past him and he pulled back out behind me, and never relinquished his spot for 20 miles.

  16. you were going too slowly.

  17. I'm a law-abiding man...

  18. In fact, you're one of those law-abiding people that sits in a lane with someone up their bum because they are already doing the legal limit...

  19. Not at all, I was moving lanes as required, while merc-man sat in the outside lane holding up a line of cars.

In other news, has anyone noticed how bad Chinese people are at lane discipline? They really are chronic, if very apologetic...

  20. If you've ever been in Chinese traffic you'd know that lane discipline is the least of their problems.
