You know... every now and again I see a shot of a 916/996/748 and just remember it's the damn prettiest thing ever made! Everything about the angle of that shot should make the bike look rubbish, exposed sumps etc, the wrong side of the swingarm. But it doesn't, it looks lush, even down to the way the exhaust follows the line of the fairing under the bike and the way the kink into the silencers... Sorry.. just having a moment over here...... I will always LOVE my 848 don't get me wrong, but I will never forget the first time I saw the most beautiful bike I have ever seen when I was age 13.
So, got the bike out and started up for the first time this year, but looks like I have some heavy discolouration on my exhausts from the Dyno time a few months ago. Are re packing kits available ? As my dealer says they're not..!
In the late nineties I had what can only be described as a 'fire' in one of my 916's silencer, after some sustained high speed running. Baines racing @ Silverstone rebuilt the silencer for me, although the carbon was slightly marked after the local dealer had told me it had had it. Long time ago though
Yes thats my 916 Fin. I'm at work and have no pics handy of the rustbucket. NEWS FLASH - Picture found lurking in Folder
Love the pics, you can't beat the 916/996 model, I always like playing the game of guess the model year
looks alright where is it rotten? sills and inner sills. if so massive strip out. and why is it not covered in daises and rainbows and other hippy shit.
The rust is on the drivers side floor and door bottom. also along the offside a bit. plus a few scabs here and there. Its not as bad as some. Its not covered in hippy shit coz I aint a hippy. But it will get slammed and a respray once i get the welding done.
