If it’s WCB then they probably won’t need to be sanctioned by a board. I totally agree with the “take it easy” point though. He was knocking proper adult sparring partners out when he was 14! The guy who runs the clay pigeon shooting ground I go to used to be a journeyman heavyweight back in the 80s and he tells a funny tale about when he tried to get a fight with the then up and coming Tyson when he was over in NY on holiday. He’s a better man than me just for trying though, because, like someone said in a post above, Tyson’s early knockouts were awe inspiring and something like 11 of his first 15 fights lasted less than a round.
Has anyone been watching boxing lately now that it’s going again. With no crowd to drown out the thuds and smacks.... fuck sake Watched Joyce v German bloke the other night. Sounded very, very uncomfortable. For German bloke.
In 2002 I flew to Toronto via Detroit to stay with my aunt after my Dad passed away. Mike Tyson was on the Detroit to Toronto leg, with quite the entourage. The plane was an Airbus 320 with no divided class section, and he was sat in the front row and boarded first. He spotted my red passport and stopped me to ask why i had a red passport, and I explained I was British and our passports were red. He asked for a look at it and I wasn't going to argue, he had a quick look, said thanks, and i went to my seat further down the plane. The plane landed in Toronto just before midnight and I was knackered. I was struggling to get my large case off the carousel when Mike sent one of his guys over to help me pick up the case and waved as he left. Completely unexpected experience!
It's gone up several notches in recent times. I'd be wary enough. You'll likely be fighting type A's on epo, roids and growth hormone.
With the greatest respect, I bet you’d struggle to get anyone else to put Mike Tyson & Lennox Lewis in the same sentence. Lewis was a good pro & for a time, the best in the world but as a destructive force of boxing, not in the same league as a young Tyson
Given that I am currently hopped up 24/7 on codeine as a result of a wrecking my left shoulder/arm/neck 15 days ago by, of all things, reaching up to unfold my ear that was caught in the lining of my helmet, I don't rate my chances of getting fit enough to throw jabs again anytime soon. That's the trouble with age - you don't necessarily lose huge amounts of strength, speed or stamina - you simply injure more easily and don't heal anywhere near as quickly as you used to. I spoke to a physio today who thinks that I have probably twanged or trapped the radial nerve against the ridge I have on my left humerus caused by a slightly displaced fracture (v similar but less serious break to Marquez's) I picked up when I used to play American football in the 90s, but went undiagnosed until I reported pain in my upper arm months later. If I do decide to give it another go, hopefully all the roiders who want to take your head off will be younger chaps as the bouts are divided by age as well as weight. Hopefully!
no boxing expert but Lennox Lewis everytime for me, maybe you are an expert and are right ...and Tyson is a scary bastard but Lennox was unbelievable in my opinion
There have been some really great boxers, Ali, Mayweather, Foreman, Sugar Ray, Tyson, Lennox... On their best day it would be hard to choose amongst them. At his peak Marvelous Marvin Hagler was as good as anyone I've ever seen.
Or Holyfield ...tyson is someone I would pay to watch or travel to see but definitely not the best but I would travel further and pay more to watch him no doubt about that.....I remember the ringwalk all black looking for war scariest fuck I ever seen...although the ghurkas at sandhurst acadamy guarding the gate despite been old had me in awe too
At 6:04 is just incredible. He floors Ruddock with a straight right while off balance and with virtually no pull back, very much like that "pull counter" Mayweather used to use. People often concentrate on Tyson's ferocity while forgetting that he was also an extremely skilled defensive boxer too.
Lennox never looked out of 2nd gear, Holyfield had Tyson’s number no doubt, I remember the British middleweight scene as been incredible, benn, Eubanks,Collins, Watson, calzaghe? Etc prince nazeem despite been an utter tool especially behind the wheel unbelievable fighter
Speaking of Holyfield -he is coming back too... https://talksport.com/sport/boxing/705599/ear-evander-holyfield-mike-tyson-triology-fight/
I wasn't much of a heavy weight boxing fan until I saw Tyson fight for the first time, IMO he was a game changer not that I'm an expert of boxing. Before Tyson they all seemed so slow and ungainly.
Can’t see video and been honest have no recollection of a skilled defensive boxer I only remember tyson trying to murder other boxers and when he couldn’t manage that he looked a bit frustrated and struggled...but look I’m no expert but I used to watch him and still do if I see clips...funniest one was the big white fella who at the press conference talked about shitting pants funny as fuck..to be fair he came out to have a go but got mullered
Totally agree ...scariest ever no doubt but limited when it got clever and Lewis and Holyfield were never intimidated
Way! Watch the vid and see the articles all over the web. Evander is 57 and going for it again. There's some serious money being swung around imo. I hope these guys don'r end up hurt.
