Joshua got 60million for fighting Ruiz... A bloke doesn't have to be poor to be tempted by that kinda cash.
One punch to wheelchair....I’d be out of that shit...but you can say the same about a bike racer, plater astounded me going to the tt obviously earned his money then chanced it ...it’s in the blood I guess and I guess that’s why people like me sit on an iPad commenting on stuff rather than doing it ....I know that and don’t need reminding
Its ego and reputation too. If Tyson comes back and parades his circus around, puts on what looks like a good show, he will be the medias "Greatest of all time". If Holyfield beats him (again) Holyfield will totally get the kudos...
No expert, just a big boxing fan. Tyson was by no means the best boxer ever, across the divisions & the years, his records do not compare to the likes of Mayweather, both Sugar Rays, Marciano, Duran, de la Hoya, Pacquiao & many more but as a destructive force in the top class of the game, there’s never been anything like him. His demons were his downfall but on his day he was unstoppable & an absolute machine.
When he lost gus and the rape stuff for sure ....in perspective if we all knew a rapist would we like him like we like tyson? Would that be acceptable? There is a divide in life it seems...Prince Andrew is now an outcast a pariah but it seems mike Tyson is not ....strange old world
Same as naz nearly killed a fella driving erratically but still a media darling...billy jo Saunders is a complete tool from his mouth and is chastised for it from everyone.....class fighter though ....still chastised And the other traveller man from morecombe tyson fury now everyone’s sweetheart but not 3 years ago hated on a big scale ....personally I think he is fantastic also Anthony Joshua a great human
When I lived in the UK, Prince Naseem Hamed was the one everybody watched. Because it wasn,t heavyweight, it did not have the same hoopla attached and even tho I didn't find him likeable, he was an amazing guy to watch. Seemed to have one foot in another dimension and moved like he was in the Matrix!
Leaving aside the “circus/stunt” factor, one of the reasons Tyson v Jones Jr is (or rather “would have been in the past”) a good match up is because on the one hand you have a boxer widely regarded to be something akin to a biblical force of nature (Tyson) and on the other, a boxer lauded as one of the finest pound for pound fighters ever, who fought across multiple weight divisions and some say wasn’t far off Ali level in terms of technical ability.
Now he’s a really interesting case. His life story film will be box office. A few years ago, like you say he was hugely disliked outside of his “community” because of how he treated the sport & some objectionable personal views. He spoke about the sins of gay people, that a woman’s place was supporting her man & so on. He then fell off the wagon, left the game while in the middle of it, piled on the pounds & had a breakdown, almost as it turned out later, trying to kill himself. But instead of hiding behind it & fading away, he came back strong (if still initially a little out of shape) sorted his own demons, very publicly spoke about his issues & acknowledged his past mistakes & comments were coming from a place of ignorance without overdoing it & sounding false. He then let his fists do the talking & beat everyone put in front of him including the guy no one thought he’d beat. His reality TV was genius & we get to see a very lovely caring guy with a great family & not just a supportive wife, but a wife who clearly is part of the reason he’s still alive. He always has time for people & speaks openly about mental health. Who knows how this one will end, but he’s certainly turned it around. Great story & a worthy champ.
Tyson fought Lewis in his autumn years so to speak. When Tyson burst onto the scene in his early years, he was sensational. Totally unstoppable and yeah, scary. He was sixteen stone and moved like a middleweight. And could obviously bang a bit. Brave men who stood in the opposite corner He sacked Bill Cayton (his manager) after Cus D’amato died. Then Don King got his hands on him. His career started going south from then on. And to be fair I think Tyson’s held his shit together really well. He’s had a lot to cope with.
Hopefully you say?? I’d research that. Imagine getting in there with a budding Chris Eubank Jr who throws a hundred (hard) punches a minute?? Fuck. That... I see Nigel Benn recently had to be saved from himself too. If you’re north of 50 you really don’t want to risk getting flattened.
Ultra violent convicted rapists, with money grabbing wives, who make their mother in law their business & financial manager generally have a few major problems. TBF it could be said that they only have themselves to blame?
