Mine could do with the same attention after the 40,000 miles on the clock, wish I had time and money to do it. Keep up the good work
Been watching thread, looking good. Did you paint the bracket, if so what did you use. I took a load of photos of my wiring but looking back it looks a bit confusing. If its not too much trouble could you take a few of the route and twists and turns if you already have not done so, I might tap you up for them later in my reno. One thing on my mind is doing any modifications to the loom while its off, ie replacing any know problem areas which gives a bit too much resistance as the ducatsuite site. Ducati Suite- Wiring Fix Anyone recommend any other modifications. I have just about finished the Autocad drawing of the clock foam. I have been printing it full size, carefully cutting it out and dropping it the plastic bracket. Can't remember who said they had some contacts to cut this out, but found a few on the Internet. I think it should be cut out rather than having a punch made as I think this would be too expensive and would not allow any small tweaks to be made. Keep up the good work, Cheers Gaz
Gaz If you message me with an email address I'll send you some phots. It was me who was looking at having the foam cut, I've worked in the Flexible foam business for 30 years, they were definitely originally pressed, the other option I was going to look at was water jet cutting. I could CNC cut the external shape but not the holes for the clocks as there is no way off getting a blade in due to Foam cutting cnc's working with either continuos or oscilating blades , the only way to cut these out would be with a sharp scalpel.
Gaz The bracket was shotbalsted, then grey primer and then Simoniz Tough Black which gives a satin finish, I used the same paint for the clock surrounds. I wont be bothering with the wiring fix as I've binned my Duke Regulator / Rectifier and will be using a RR51 which uses a differnt wiring configuration, I have checked all terminal throughout the look and all look ok .
Yes its a nice satin finish. I can follow instructions, but I am not too up on electrics so don't know what the RR51 is and what it entails. I think I have miss placed loyalty or stubbornness to move away from original set up unless there is overwhelming evidence that its pants, but an "ignitech" article did catch my eye the other night but will wait until I've see the what original set up is like. Cheers Gaz
Gaz I think the general consensus is that the orig rectifier/regulator is pants ! mines gone straight in the bin and is being replaced by the RR51Regulator Rectifier for DUCATI CAGIVA LAVERDA 350SS 400SS 600SS750SS 900SS 500 PANTAH 600 750 900 MONSTER 748 750F1 manufactured by Electrex World I'm going to stick with original ignition set up to start with and see how it goes, I have however bought mini dynatech coils and Taylor HT leads which should supply some uprated sparks ! What bike ru working on ?
RR51 is easy to fit... stupidly easy. Run the green and red wires straight to the battery - you can slice them and use the original connecting points but by running straight to the battery or busbar you eliminate the possibility of dodgy wiring. The charge warning light bullet connector just fixes into the white wired female bullet on the existing loom. see... Simples.
Sorry, missed you response about the clock foam. Thought it was you but was not sure. I have just a little tweak next week to get profile a bit better then I might send it to a few people and see what comes back. If you know anyone I can email you the file .dwg / .dxf. As I said don't really want to set into the pressing thing sounds expensive. I work in engineering and used have used this stuff, I believe it's closed cell foam, not sure of the exact material think its available in a few. Cheers Gaz.
Hi Gaz Send me a dxf file and I'll have a look , I've sent you some pics so you will have my email, the autocad file needs to be a continuos poly line , like I said before theres no way of cutting the circles out unless you want a blade cutting line , so might be worth drawing one complete and the other just the outline, trust me I know my foam cutting machinery although I'm on the sales side , I work for the worlds largest foam manufacturer and although we dont make rigid foams we supply a lot of people who use them, where are you based ?
How shocking are M & P motorcycles ! just received my "new" Bridgestone tyres for the SL The front was made in wk 14 2012 which is fine, However the rear was made in Wk11 2008 ! thats over 4.5 years old, M&P werent bothered by this and said not to worry as it still had a year left on warranty (out of 5) they couldnt even work out the basic maths that meant it only had 20 weeks left. I certainly wont be fitting it and have told them to collect both, I urge all you other riders to allways check date codes when having new tyres fitted. Rant over
I've got to buy tyres as well. So the Michelin Macadams that have been on at least since 2001 (last MOT) are also pants. So that's a regulator/rectifier and having read into that I think it prudent to change the Stator (as wiring is reported to be under size - something about being 10 gauge (think 3.2mm) rather than 12 gauge (think 2.6)). I can't afford to read this forum any more. Couple of RR articles, you might have seen them before but there here anyway. Larry Kelly Email Charging System- Ducati Up North Cheers, Gaz
The image works decals are amazing. The only one I hesitated to use was the agip on the tank as it was a metallic finish and very pointy unlike the standard one.
I have used Image works for previous projects and can only say they are excellent and great people to deal with, I shall be using their decals for my resto.
Frame and wheels are due to be picked up tommorow from Redditch Shotblasting and powdercoating , Yipee  Cant wait to get stuck into the rebuild.
I'd love to restore an old superlight like yours but can't ever see the day when I'll be able to afford it. Restoring my supersport would be a close second but I love riding it too much to take it off the road for that long. I'll just have to look at your pictures and dream on.
