MK1 Superlight engine mods found so far

Discussion in 'Supersport (1974-2007)' started by sim900sl, Aug 30, 2012.

  1. Higher output single phase genny which is fitted to the early ST2 and the 916sps.
Also they both have a extra oilway to cool the genny so i believe.

Looks like the early ST2 engine/bottom end is a true parts bin special.

  2. Howdo Lady's

Not quite 128.........123Bhp and very happy I is . I have to say this was my first injection bike and I is well impressed, love me 2 valve engines/bikes but this Aqua powered 3valver really has got the minerals. Just need the rest of the bike to work as a complete unit, all the parts are there just need to dial it in (Brakes n suspension n odds n sods, motor is spot on).

128 refers to Grandad Spinnaker's built in the back garden 851/888/916 4valver.

  3. I still think anything over 120 is a good result, is it reliable? as some members have a passion for reliability.

  4. I'm down bandit county 24th onwards for 3 nights, you about? Need to see Grandad about footpegs and beer!

  5. So far the motor has been spot on, starts straight away and hasn't missed a beat (Credit to Chris at CJS for building a good motor). You can rev it through to 10,000 or just ride the torque and short shift through the box. Stronger than a good 944 2valver with 20-30bhp up top, whilst still maintaining looks and ride of the original bike. Didn't want the 4v bike and couldn't find a 1100 2valve motor.
In fact on the look out for another motor for a track bike

  6. What pegs you after?
    You found a plug?
    Will have a butchers.

  7. Might have a plug will have a look, fingers crossed will have one

  8. Now that's going too far! Non of that language on here, thank you :upyeah:

  9. 470,
Could the temperature rating on the original O ring be too low? Found this out when I cooked a turbine engine (major fuel leak), recommend Thamesdown Bearings in Cheyney Manor (Swindon), they're usually pretty helpful especially if it's something out of the ordinary....Mike

  10. Could be? Im thinking they are too thin? Big revs - big oil pressure, they literally get hoovered down the pipe?

Bought the genuine Ducati ones so should have been fine? Looking back on that statement I could never say Ducati's have always been fault-free lol

  11. I would tap out and grubscrew the troublesome oil way and buy a 4v type oilcooler with the braided oil pipes and drill/tap out the cam shaft end caps and banjo bolt the oil feeds into them.
MBP do this to all the 2V ported heads.
Or you could get hold of a special oil pressure switch and run 2 hoses from there direct to the cam end covers.

  12. Genius! I already have a 848 oil cooler!

Any pics of this done to a bike?

Best i can find but you can see the banjo bolts fitted to the cam caps

  14. So - I would need a longer union for the oil cooler feed allowing an extra 14mm banjo fitting into the oil feeds?

The oil feeds into the cam ends and exits as normal?

  15. You will need a 916 996 st4 748 888 oil cooler,, it has a extra banjo for the oil feeds.
Yes drains from heads back into sump.

I did the grub screw mod on my ST2 bottom end to fit the 916 top end on my 851

  16. Warning if you run them directly to cam covers you will send more oil to head then it can later remove back to engine. Guess what will happen then? To have extra oil lines going to heads you need to open the spare oil gallery in head, cylinder and bottom end.
