  1. Air cooled ones hold their value better coz they’ve reached rock bottom and are now on the way back up, especially the original M900s; plus they are the ‘original’ Monsters. IMHO

  2. look for a low mile 821 with termis and the upmap. Lowball them. It's virus pricing time.
Nobody but you will have probably made an offer.
Find one with Termi's, and other extras like the quick shifter with very low miles listed for 8K
Offer 6K stay firm and enjoy the bike.

my current ride, 1200R, completely bonkers, best road bike I’ve ridden in 35 years

But.... I still have my first Monster an M900 from 1993, still love it for its looks and simplicity

  4. I had a Monster 1200 which was Amazing! Now I have a S4R and it is also a great bike. If you rode them back to back, you would want the 1200. Maybe the 821 is a great compromise? I bet you would love them all, it would be like going to an old fashioned bordello and struggling to decide where to put your money!:p:D:D

  5. I also had a lovely 1200 but now have an s2r1000 which is less capable in every measurable area but I much prefer as it has enough for me and is bursting with character. Subjective of course but the 1200 looks too busy. I've just bought an s4 as the owner was moving house and had no room at the new place, he offered it to me at a crazy price I could not ignore. Not ridden it yet though other than at my yard at work.
Not so keen on the 821, too revvy for me but great if you don't mind that.

  6. Interesting to see a few people have gone from the latest model to an older one and prefer it.

  7. I think at the moment I've narrowed it down to a 796
    Or a 1100s
Quite like the idea of air cooled ,and single sided swingarm
    This could change

  8. I am not sure if I think that or not? Certainly don't think the older bike is worse. It is not as fast sure, but I don't ride on roads that need in excess of 220 kmh and it will still power slide out of a corner given enough throttle. Very fun bikes!

  9. all good thoughts here. I rode an 821, loved it. certainly enough. But the best deal was on a 1200. Since they felt similar sitting still I was not afraid of buying it without riding one.
I too was looking hard at some older models. Even though I was using the site that shows you the ergonomics I was not comfortable buying say an S4R without actually sitting on one. There were no older bikes local enough to me to go sit on. I did see some great deals though.

I am sure everyone will agree that
    A) anything you buy you will love.
    B) the more pics you post here the more you will love it. Right guys?

  10. Just been round to the mate I bought my 916 from
Mentioned I might be in the hunt for a monster
He has a fully rebuilt 996 engine just sat that would be available! Not been given a price yet
What blown up engined monster would I need to look out for that I could fit this into ?
I have some spare throttle bodies ,no ecu though

  11. An S4r would be best as they came with initially the 996 and then later the 998 engine. Wonderful bikes.

  12. Not many of those up for sale ,so I doubt I will find one that needs a engine

  13. I've got an S4RS and it's a fantastic bike, plenty of performance and looks great, last of the old style.

  14. So I was very naughty this morning and went for a ride even though we are still in level 4 lockdown. Tomorrow night we move to level 3 which has been described as level 4 with takeaways! Anyhow 1st photo shows the swamp I live on the edge of but right over the other side from the bike. 2nd photo is a waterfall approx 10km away that drains the swamp, partly through a hydro electric scheme. 6FE83713-A041-4528-92DD-B442C440FC6E.jpeg 69B302F3-F6FA-4D16-BC3B-58FCF2B132E9.jpeg

  16. How did you get the second (waterfall) pic? Were you standing on a bustop shelter or had climbed up a tree? LOL

  17. Think I’ve just added a S2r 1000 to the shortlist
Cheaper as older ,single swing arm and air cooled, good reviews as well
