More M.C.E insurance woes.....

Discussion in 'Insurance - Sponsored by Ducati Insurance' started by timberwolf, May 15, 2013.

  1. I think you have nailed it there Nelson, my thoughts exactly. The whole thing needs a complete overhaul. Insurance should be made as clear and simple as possible. To me, its closer to fraud and its totally unacceptable. I just had a read through MCE Motorcycle Insurance www.mceinsurance.com Reviews at Review Centre and noticed BIGED has started replying to some issues on there recently. It coincides with some recent dubious good reviews............ make your own mind up.

  2. Damn, this is pretty much me! I went with mce in August fully comp, fully paid up! And admittedly it was the Rac cover that swung it! I booked through that fat singing man site, as it was cheaper than their own site bizzarley?
Anyway watching with interest this thread on mce and what you said Nelson about the Rac bit got me thinking! So off to the kitchen to sift through the 50+ sheets of paper you must download and print off these days!!!!!!!!
(what the fuck happened to guilded certificates in the post) anyway...

And so head straight to the 'my Rac rescue policy schedule'

    Bike: Ducati, blah, blah

Cover Provided: Roadside (See T&C, table)

Ok so it says Roadside- 10 mile radius, of what? My house? Fuck I thought, i had full uk recovery, mechanical expertise, milky drink and bedtime story like the adverts!
Think I need to make a phone call and seek some clarification! Thanks for starting this thread guys and THANKYOU Nelson, for flagging this up..!

  3. Happened to me with C Nash. Ducati OEM oil filter fractured in deepest Wales, dropped its load and the Fugli-strada nipped up. Recovery? Yes of course, pay now, that'll be a distress payment of whatever we want to charge you.

  4. Hey Borgo, so what was the scenario then, were you just literally recovered you + bike, or did you have to sign up to like a gold or platinum package cover thingy?

Did you get home or was it a case of 'theirs a light on over at the inn'...I'll drop you their!!!

  5. You get 10 miles free (you and bike) and after that there's a cost per mile

  6. No option but to pay by Switch over the phone for the full recovery service and got delivered with bike to the end of the drive at home. This happened in 2010. The bike survived the 'nip' and has worked perfectly since.

  7. I was with MCE a couple of years ago. Got an online quote then went through the call centre. I gave them a list of the the mods the bike came with and paid, happy days! When the docs came through none of the mods were mentioned so I called them only to be told that it wasn't important and if I insisted on having them put on it would cost me an admin charge of I think £30. At the time I just thought, ok, if it's not important then no worries.....looking back now I think I may have been in a bit of trouble had I had an accident. Anyway, suffice to say I tend to give them a wide berth these days. I'd rather pay a little extra and get peace of mind.

  8. Wow, thanks chaps ( hook, line and sinker ) over here!

Food for thought I guess next time I'm planning an excursion with my buddies,! Small print or clever marketing? I'm so annoyed now am usual pretty good at seeing through all the spiel not so on this occasion it seems. Well thanks to this thread and the insight of some you I kinda know what to expect in the event of the worst!

what isn't clear however is do you contact the recovery company directly, with details or do I call my insurers who then arrange for my recover? I was expecting some kind op plastic card with a number and reference should I need it guess that just isn't the case? All I have is printed A4 sheets with see http.lycfgdrgvfhgdnhrhjgxfgxutterbollocks.co.uk for details.?

  9. This not listing certain points on the paperwork is one of the problems I had, when I rang them to query it they said don't worry it really does not matter.well everyone you just wait till claim time comes around, lets just say that of the 30 or so supposedly recorded phone calls that we had over the course of about a year, they could not supply one of those calls to the ombudsmen, they claimed a catastrophic equipment failure ,I can understand that happening maybe once or twice, but no not on every call, where ofcourse my claims about what they told me would have been verified, also about them quoting me for protected no claims verbally, but could not prove it etc etc.Suffice to say the ombudsmen was not at all impressed and I would urge even my worst enemy to seek cover elsewhere.

  10. Don't get me going on their "admin charges"

  11. Well, the times arrived to insure again. MCE have rang me no less than 30 times in the past two weeks. I have a quote from bikesure that's coming in at £299 fully comp. Still ridiculous for a 44 year old with 10 years no claims imo. I feckin hate MCE with a passion. Anyone used Bikesure?
When I add it all up, becoming a ducati owner last year has cost me a feckin fortune. Yeah, I enjoy the bike but how a GSXR1000 can be £120 fully comp and a Ducati 1098 triple the price beats the crap out of me. On top of that, I will need the belts doing next year....
Why does everyone want to take my money from me!!!!

  12. had all the above roblems with MCE, including puncture on M11 leaving me to pay £140 to get recovered to a mates house as was more than 10 miles from home. Since then bought full nation wide cover. MCE keep phoning me saying I haven't renewed when I did a month ago. Useless company but cheapest quotes.

  13. I use Be Wise for my Ducati 1198 after Bennetts tried to quote my renewal at £1000, even though the year before was only £600 and the bike brand spanking. I used the MCN insurance quoter thing and I have to say they saved me much moolah. My Insewerance went down to circa £400 fully comp with £250 excess.

Plus Be Wise have been pretty decent, helpful and trouble free. I'll recommend them and will get my 916 on their policy too once I get it serviced and off the SORN. (ran outta cash to insure 2 bike as I also have a money pit vw campervan)

  14. Desmosedici Insurance. MCE quoted £6144 online. They then called me up 10 mins later and asked if I would like to go ahead with the policy. I was still cleaning up a mouthfull of hot tea from my monitor form 10 mins previously !

The guy didn't have a hint of irony in his voice either

  15. All the large companies are shite, I had a non-fault accident back in February and the letters and emails they sent me drove me bananas, they even rejected a letter from my car insurance company confirming it had been settled and I was not to blame. In the end I just rang them, flew off the handle and they then backed down and apologised.

I will name and shame, this was Adrian Flux, I won't be renewing with them.

  16. When I got the Blackbird I had a look round for quotes, assuming that my current insurer (ebike) would sting me for a mid-term change. Swinton came out cheapest so I hit the button. DD was set up (I always pay monthly), then they asked me for proof of ncb - bollocks, can't use ncb on two policies - so I copped the hump and cancelled the direct debit.

Only I cancelled the wrong one...

Found an email address that connects with a human at ebike and explained my mistake. "Why didn't you insure it with us?" he replied. End up starting a new policy for the guzzi and blackbird for exactly the same price as the old policy, and no cancellation fee for cocking up the DD! I've had better customer service and less hassle from the computer at ebike than I have with any other broker in the last 25 years, at the moment I wouldn't consider any other company.

  17. Ebike for now is great for me. Not yet needed to claim. However they are very detailed and Direct. My custom paintjob that is declared also covers my Simmos 58 stickers that is how detailed they are. All of that is on insurance document.

  18. Yep, I detailed all the mods I intend to do to the Guzzi and it made not a jot of difference to the price, and they are all noted on the policy schedule, along with pillion cover european breakdown, etc with no mistakes. That's more than most brokers can manage. There's one or teo scare stories about making claims through ebike, but no more than any other company. All the time I'm getting this level of service and price I'll be sticking with them.

  19. Hello,
Back to the original message about pillion. I've just took out insurance from MCE and the girl said pillion was included. A few hours later my documents arrive in email and it says pillion is excluded.

I never have pillion but maybe I should ring them out of principle given they do have a recording of every phone call.

Regarding the breakdown cover, this is what the document says, luckily I have no need for it but I guess you can tell why it's included as it's a money maker for them not a loss or a benefit to the rider:

and the helmet and leathers cover wouldn't even pay for a helmet from Aldi ;)

Reading my policy I note this interesting one (as in insurance is voided) as I never do this as it'll cause more harm than good usually:
