Looking for something else and I noticed this comment from Ducati re not recommending change of rear brake pads! ?wot? :Banghead: ...anyone more knowledgeable than me care to hazard a guess why that should be? I fitted EBC HH pads........no warning on the packaging re not being suitable for ABS braking systems, so (in light of the above statement from Ducati) why would they not be appropriate??
No science from me I am afraid. But cant see why there would be an issue as long as the rear pad material is the same as the front, whatever you use.
Running standard exhaust set up, have heat shield fitted and rear brake bled again and just had first MOT. Brake not brilliant. Will report in a week to see if it's gone AWOL again!! 4th time now. :Bawling:
Had the brake system and clutch system flushed and filled with MOTUL RBF600 during the very recent full Desmo service. Brembo Sinter Brake-pads installed now and awesome rear brake, must say never had real rear brake problems, worked since day one... miracles do happen!!!
I never bleed my rear at the calliper (waste of time IMHO), just the "abs" nipple. Standard disk, HH pads. Decat exhaust and standard DOT 4 fluid. Rear Brake is great, no issues, lovely feel. Glad to see some many people adopted my "unpatented" fix :Shamefullyembarrased:
I've just fitted the ABS bleed nipple, the stuff that came out when I bled from the pedal to the ABS unit was a horrible milky brown colour mixed with air. To say that the new version of my rear brake is an improvement is the understatement of the week. £5.00 and 10 minutes with a bit of new brake fluid = and a brake that does what it says on the tin! If you haven't tried Aircon's mod yet, get it done.
Due to high humidity in our region changing oil & filter and clutch / brake fluid every 6000km, no dramas here ~ preventive maintenance. Ferodo Brake pads shall be tested as per picture in the near future....
:Hungry: I've definitely looked at ACT's suggestion about the ABS bleed nipple arrangement, but wanted to try the tried and tested "Aprilia" technique, before I went onto the ATC 'fix'. By this I mean taking the rear caliper off, raising it as high as possible and then using an auto bleed set-up, conventionally. I have to say the result is truly brilliant, the rear brake is absolutely 'rock-solid', better than it has ever been before! So for me the ATC method, although very highly rated by many forum members here on this site, will just have to wait. I've got it downloaded ready to rock and roll as required though! :Wideyed:
Love the idea and have used it many times on Trial type bikes. Did you get the calliper above the ABS unit? My concern is always that the ABS banjo is the highest point in the rear brake circuit. Not sure if the calliper reaches above unless you remove all the rear guards etc. I remain aghast that the air bleed nipple is at the bottom of the calliper...some new laws of physics I'm unaware of, but Ducati know about!!!! Basically the modification i documented was to make it easier to bleed the rear brake effectively. Glad to see you got a result that you happy with. Just ordered the RBF600 factory brake fluid to make it EVEN better
