UK law has a built in flexibility, to allow for unexpected actions, which is generally a positive for the public. On occasions this is cited as something to be concerned about, but in my opinion this, in ordinary day to day life, is unwarranted.
It’s been discussed to death over the years, but hoot owl is correct. An MOT doesn’t make the vehicle legal to use on the road, it’s a requirement, one of many, that is needed to use a vehicle on the road. Use and construction regs call for bikes after a certain date to have indicators and lights so that they can used. It’s these rules that will get you pulled up. Daytime mot won’t cut it with traffic if they decide to pull you. Insurance companies don’t like daytime mot’s either. By deleting the lights mirrors etc. It’s a modified bike.
Any idea where I would find those rules or what they are called? My post #18 (contains link) is for "The Road Vehicles Lighting Regulations 1989, and does not appear to have been superseded at all. Re removing mirrors, here a Bike lawyers opinion. Its interesting. https://www.bikelawyer.co.uk/site/m...text=In short, there is no,two or none at all.
Tbh, I don’t know the ins and outs and haven’t been too bothered to go hunting..... my tester is a good mate and we’ve discussed daytime mots many times over the years. The use and construction laws were explained to me by a good friend of mine whilst he was working on the county traffic division. It’s a bit of a lottery in truth. Many get by just fine with daytimes year on year. If you get an officer that knows his game, he’ll have you. Insurance wise, ask them. I know of two folk that got into trouble after a claim went in. One was a write off I had in the shop and the assessor rejected the claim..... Personally I wouldn’t bother, but each to their own.
