Motogp Press Conference

Discussion in 'Racing & Bike Sport' started by rcv4, Oct 31, 2015.

  1. Thats how competotion is,you main rivals will allways be the enemy...in any sport, thats wot drives the top flight, they might be nice to to the competition when they are beating them but as soon as its the other way round things change.

  2. how so? david beckham may have graced more covers than was in proportion to his skills and achievements .. (dont even know if that is correct england but you get the point) still does and hes a has been!
if the media take to someone because they are marketable /personable or a draw card is it wrong? i think celebrity for celebrities sake is but this aint the case here. if rossi's face sells more mags and gets more people interested in the sport then it can only be good for those prepared to invest in it and those that like the sport. thank fuck we have future poster boys coming through or there might not even be a race series[/QUOTE]
Funny i dont think motogp will die because rossi retires the series doesnt hang on him been in it.

that wasnt really my point. op said it was a massive problem. cant see how rossi grabbing more front pages than say stoner is a prob even if stoner was doing better in the series at the time. If his face sold more mags than stoner's why the fuck would they put stoners ugly mug on it despite his achievements? if you think when rossi does retire that there is no need for another focal point in this sport then i dont know what to tell ya....

  4. Rossi - the best thing to happen to motogp in the last ten year. Conversley. Rossi the worst thing to happen to motogp in the last 10 days.

Lets hope by next week that all bitterness is buried and no favours are given to anyone offer this last racing weekend of 2015. Im a fan and a participant of he sport and the vitriol emerging over the last 10 days has been sickening. Motorcycle racing is a minority sport and I hope it stays that way, as the limelight brought on by riders on and off track professional antics has encouraged the football supporter type masses out of their tabloid press submerged lives has left foul taste in my mouth. Any further legal actions by the teams or riders will only add to the stench.

Why Rossi is on the front page could be down to the Wayne Rooney effect. You know the one , lowest common denominator to appeal to the uneducated masses

So would you buy a magazine if stoner was the cover? It shouldnt make any diffrence if your a fan of the sport.

If he comes back it would be fab - not that I'm a fan of anyone other then bike racing itself - and TIG welders from Hull. Have you not set off yet, you'll be late!!! :Wideyed:

in this case it aint about me! lol... im sold already but its not about preaching to the converted! also you have seen in the last 2 weeks how fickle the converted are! but any sport needs a focal point, someone that every kid aspires to be. times change and the old hand must retire but i think we do have up n comers (MM for example) that will carry the torch and that is a good thing. im a rossi fan no bones but MM is necessary if not him then who? you cant have a field of equals who the fuck is gunna pay to see that!?

No worries...im thick skinned..or just thick.

  12. Just seen Jacques Cornu (the old 250cc rider) on Swiss TV news talking about it. He thinks it's all great for the sport. It has generated media attention and he thinks Valencia will garner a lot bigger audience as a result.

It's a bit like the antics before a boxing match - all designed to ramp up the tension and increase interest.
The committed fans were going to watch it anyway. But the recent fracas has increased the interest for the neutral.

  14. that is a fact.. but unlike the boxing, a contender now has one and tied behind his back! it is all good for the sport, there is no such thing as bad press but to the individual unless its a fix there is nothing to be gained

  15. having said that, the whopped up show down may be worth more in tee shirt sales than another world championship!!!!

  16. publicity ??? tbh i have not seen one mention of it , other than in the MCN

  17. I disagree i sold my spare ticket for £400 i dont give a shit who wins now.

  18. LOL!!!! i was referring to the sportsmen involved but fair play to ya! :D

  19. cant argue (no wont argue) with that....

  20. That's because the entire UK tries (and succeeds) to ignore bike racing. There was almost no general media coverage of WSBK despite the multiple championships won by British riders and the domination of UK participants.
Last time I went to the British GP, I looked for a mention of it in the sport pages of a national newspaper and couldn't find it anywhere, despite Kent having won his race and most likely the title.
Fortunately in other countries bike racing is treated as a serious sport.
