My experience of Ducati dealers is limited having only been a member of the fold for the last 6mths but I did call "Riders" that you mentioned earlier for a service quote and after that experience lets just say I doubt i'd go to them if I was looking to buy a new Ducati?
I bought a Grand Tour from Ducati Glasgow last week, getting it delivered last week of June, cant wait. Prices have been available for months.
Even the Grand Tour has the price n I'm sure that when I looked, the prices were not shown and I found this vert frustrating, but, whether I just missed them or not, it doesn't matter as they are very clearly displayed now. Can I ask you, in order to help me sort my head out, what persuaded you to make the choice? Was it Ducati anywhere and that Ducati was the one that met your needs best, or did you consider other manufacturers for tourers and fancied the Multistrada above other makes? I realise that there are emotions in play here and so there may not be a totally logical pathway.
What do you ride at the moment Perry? What are you looking for in your bike, what's important? I moved from an Aprilia Tuono. I test rode a Multistrada in 2010 and wasn't initially sure, but rode another (an S) and was more impressed. It was a bike that met all my needs, commuting, long tours and general fun. I like the way it rides, the look and the personality of the bike. I've on my third now.
Hello Perry, I have been planning to buy a new bike for sometime, wanted a mile cruncher / tourer / fast road bike. Looked at various other makes including BMW, Triumph, MV Agusta and Kawasaki. When Ducati released photos and the specs I decided this was the bike for me, now this will probably sound crazy, due to the Covid restrictions I never managed to get a test ride but decided to buy anyway. This will be my first modern / tech laden Duke , 4yr warranty, fitted BikeTrac, £1000 voucher for accessories etc included. Total paid was £19.5k on the road. I will also be keeping my 748 SPS and the ST4S, Ally
At the moment I have a Ducati ST3 and a Ducati ST2. I'm not riding either at the moment. The ST3 was at my brother's house in Salisbury (because I dropped it last January in Salisbury right outside the hospital where I was taken!) and my ST2 is in my garage requiring me to finish off a valve check that I was in the middle of when I had my big accident in March 2019. I've got a hospital appointment in Cheltenham for another eye check on Wednesday. They have the power to say whether or not I can start riding again. I've made an executive decision (for I am now an executive) that I am not going to go back to work. So, the new bike (that will replace one of the Ducatis that I own) will be used for touring, at least Ireland, Scotland, Spain, Poland and possibly Norway - plus local jaunts to the Welsh mountains, Forest of Dean, and Wiltshire with no luggage plus UK breakdown cover for punctures! So, I want stunning reliability, good fuel tank range, and good luggage options. Speed is not very important as I won't be rushing! I do want reasonably good power as I'm not exactly light (especially with full riding kit plus a lot of ironwork in my leg) and it will have to carry luggage. I won't be camping but on some of the trips, I would reckon to be away for at least a month. So, although I might have to wash clothes, a good selection of clothes, with camera and lenses and a tablet. The most tools will be the bike toolkit plus a puncture kit (anymore problems than that, then it would go to a workshop!).
I think the multi would be ideal, Maybe even an Enduro if you want to carry more luggage. The upright position is a lot more comfortable in the long run and gives you better forward vision. You really need to get some test rides once you can before you decide.
I didn't consider the Enduro but having looked on the Ducati web site then it does look good! Thanks for the pointer!
Just remember it’s a bit top heavy when full of fuel and the early ones were tall in the seat., but more comfortable seat. There should be some good deals on these as they didn’t sell so well initially. P&H have a few low mileage ex demo bikes e.g. https://www.phmotorcycles.co.uk/product/mts-1200-enduro/ or 1260 https://www.phmotorcycles.co.uk/product/ducati-multistrada-1260-enduro-2/
You can handle quite a lot of luggage with the non-Enduro if you're a shortarse like me, or don't need the range / prefer the 17" front wheel.
NAH, still don't accept that moniker even if some of the younger brethren may attempt to attach it.....
My wife says I have the maturity of a 16 year old. Who am I to argue? She's always right anyways. Back on topic: I like this latest "bin cleaning" edition. Saves on purchasing all the features separately. But why are they insisting on using those enduro / street ST II t̶i̶r̶e̶s̶ tyres?
Just traded in my Xdiavel for a MultistradA 1260S Grand Tour. Now to wait till September 1st for her to arrive. No more broken coccyx From the Xdiavel. Looking forward to riding her every day, for miles and miles of powerful comfort. I’ll miss the XDiavel but you just cant enjoy her daily in this country.
There are good deals on nearly new/ex demos about just need to keep looking, my 1260s has more accessories than a GT, it’s white not grey & saved myself 5K just for sake of 1700 miles which is nothing
