A small portable trampoline. Practise is vital with this as you don’t want to overshoot and land on the roof of a passing car. Alternatively how about Cuban heels with additional inserts? They will go well with your Lionels.
Hi I’ve got a lowered seat and the lowered suspension kit is on order which comes with a shorter side stand. In the meantime I frequently use the pegs with no issues.
If you guys are like me it’s hardest getting on and off rather than when riding. Sure, camber dependent!! One of the reasons I like skyhook: set urban super soft so easier to get on/off and lower and around towns makes a huge difference if paddling between cars. Not tried a v4, experience based on 1200 models
On my 1200S I used to set the mode to Urban / Load to Solo Rider to help setting off and stopping when two up, fully loaded. Occasionally I forgot to change to Load back to Rider, Pillion and Luggage until something touched down on a corner Now I have a V4S which has the Minimum Preload setting which can be enabled in any mode at below 60 mph and automatically disabled at about 70 mph: This feature was added to new bikes in 2022 and I believe it is enabled on earlier bikes through a software upgrade.
W I tried that button yesterday, heard the pre-load adjust and felt the bike go down. Not had a chance to throw my leg over yet as need to move some things out of the way in the garage. I'm hoping tomorrow afternoon is dry round here and the roads dry up.
Practice definitely helps, and getting comfortable with handling a big bike at a standstill can make a big difference when it comes to enjoying 2up fully laden touring.
I too use the lower function on my 2022 V4S, I've also had the forks lowered 10mm and fitted the lower seat. Lowering the forks bt 10mm makes a back difference, not just lowering the bike to get on and off, but it also lowers the centre of gravity of the bike and sharpens the handling especially in the twisties.
Once you've got on the bike, the next task is to get the bike upright off the side stand. It depends on the camber of surface but it can take a bit of effort when fully loaded. Ducati have introduced an "Easy Lift" feature on the new Multistrada Rally. Given the 30 litre fuel tank and higher seat height (30mm more than the V4S), this new feature is a bit of must: "The Multistrada V4 Rally takes a further step forward in terms of ease of use by introducing the Easy Lift function which, by opening the suspension hydraulics at key-on, reduces the effort required to lift the motorcycle from the side stand thanks to fork and shock absorber compression." Unfortunately, I doubt if Ducati will implement this feature on the V4S even if it's possible. Even more unlikely that it will be made available by software update retrospectively to "old" V4S models.
brilliant and clearly very capable - though she doesnt deny the practice it takes ... and also shows when it goes wrong. having said that, Cassie doesnt pick the bike up in the same video
I do exactly that but from the right hand side with my left leg then slide over the seat. No problems at all. Might look strange but it works for me.
