Mts V4 Tyres

  1. Have set if you want to try them , personally they were not for me as the TA 3 just feels better and more planted .
    I have them on a set of spare wheels for the V4 .
     
  2. I used to enjoy hanging on to the back of sports bikes in the bends on my GS, surprised many a power ranger!

  4. hi. had the metzeler m9rr for about 5k kilometers and they are sticky as hell but i have a constant problem with them. at hard accelerating my bike creates some kind of wobbling around 8k rpm at any gear and it did this thing just when i switched to metzeller. at first i thought it was some kind of calibration but i controlled everything and everything was ok. dont know if smth like this happend to you
     
  5. I’ve had the Metzeler M7’s and M9’s on various bikes and really enjoyed them. However as @lazian above says with hard acceleration the front goes ‘waggly’. I had this problem with my Multistrada and to a greater extent with an old set of Metzeler’s on my Monster. In fact I think the Metzeler’s on the Monster had done so many heat cycles that they’d gone off. In the end they were just awful.

    However I’ve never found this on my Panigale with 7’s or 9’s. I put it down to more weight on the front end with a sports bike.

    On my Monster I don’t tend to do wet mileage but lots of hot dry Kilometres in fact, in Spain. I’ve recently changed to Dunlop SportSmart TT’s as they were the nearest thing I could find to a street legal slick. (except Supercorsa’s). Also the profile of the front is more rounded than the Metzeler’s. Hey presto that nervous flighty steering head waggle has gone!

    Last weekend I ragged it back from Jerez across Andalucia, the bike just rolled through the flowing bends.
    It was pure joy.

  6. thnx a lot for your reply brother. i was going crazy about that waggly stuf. maybe the metzeller m9 are not so good for a 19 inch front wheel. think ill switch to the dunlop roadsmart 4
     
  7. I did try a set of the Road 4 , to be honest took them off after 600 miles as they felt wooden. Conti TA 3 , turn fast , wear well and to can abuse them all day long, a great set of boots.

  8. The Dunlop carcasses are way stiffer than the Metzeler’s. They need to be run at far lower pressure.
    As recommended by Dunlop.
     
  9. Tried lower , started at the 35/36 , then -2 each time. , gave up and took them off . I think for me Dunlops just don’t suit .

  10. Fair enough, if they don’t suit they don’t suit.

    I just checked and Dunlop recommend surprisingly low pressures.
    Front cold 27.5 ~ 32psi
    Rear cold 21.7! ~ 27.5 psi

    Lower than I thought. I’ll have to let myself down.

  11. Can you share the link as interested as normally rear is more than front . Googled it but found nothing would appreciate your source . Thanks
    Always as a rule started at the factory recommendation and adapted after . Those seem a bit odd IMHO.

    Various listed, mine were SportSmart TT’s. The listed pressures are bar, Easy to convert to psi.

  13. Just for the record , I use Conti TA3 , they have a stiff side wall but work well at the recommended pressures for the bike.
    I have and do drop a bit if in a hot country and on it , but not track drops as this would not work on the roads as you cannot keep the temps up as you would on a track. Another point is with the 9RR they still work well at recommended .
     
  14. The SportSmart Tt’s are road tyres. They’re covering themselves by saying use what your manual recommends. I’m sure you’re all correct that the track pressures are too low for the road but from experimenting they seem good at lower pressures than stated in the manual.

    Basically between the two.

    I remember when I first got introduced to Metzeler M7’s by a technician from Metzeler. He gave me a chart with all the sizes and pressures. Then said, ‘we have to print these pressures for legal reasons, run them 3psi lower, you’ll find it’s better’.

    I just experimented a bit. The bike will soon tell you when it’s wrong.
