  1. have taken front cylinder off ,to find what looks like the head gasket has gone the head looks ok i am having the head tested.what causes head gaskets to fail on these engines? in the 2500 miles i have done since owning it the engine has never once got hotter than 85c and if its not a heat problem how can i stop it happening again IMAG0301.JPG IMAG0302.JPG IMAG0303.JPG

  2. How long did it take you to take the head off out of interest - considering what you were estimated for labour?

  3. 2.5 -3 hours over a couple of evenings after work

  4. So, 3 hours + say 1 hour for cleaning, 3 hours to put back = 7 hours max.
You need to pay yourself £200 per hour :upyeah:

  5. £2050 to do a head gasket :Greedy: What drugs are they on??

  6. The barrel looks like it has some loss of sealing around the lower bottom, the greying colour shows where the seal migh have been breached, is that a tiny crack in the picture?
The head sealing area looks all good . Check to see if the barrel is true as this might be your problem.

  7. Too right. I've just bought all the parts to do the front head gasket on my 1098R and bought the belts and new oil filter at the same time. I get a little dealer discount but price was just under 280 quid all in.

  8. the barrel is fine that mark is a bit of gasket ,got the head back from machine shop the head is porous ,the is a tiny leak around the exhaust valve seat see the yellow in the picture 20140930_155913 head.JPG

  9. Get onto Ducati then, point proven. Manufacturing defect

  10. after several phone calls to the dealer and to ducati uk the is to be no help on the head.initially ducati uk said it would`nt be a problem but when they found out it was out of warranty and i`d take the head off and had it tested to prove it was a porous head not a head gasket the promise of help was retracted ducati uk only works with its dealers on case by case.it does`nt matter the bike has a full service historty if you work on it your self your on your own.the dealer was adamant it was ahead gasket and it was going to cost £2k.no matter what.i have`nt got £2k spare its my only transport ,so today i ordered a new head.the cost of the new head £221 a bit more bearable just got wait for the head now the rebuild.
( did try other dealer but no joy because ducati uk new the history).
