Multistrada 1000ds...should I Consider One?

  1. Hyper, yeah, that'd match one of my kids...Lol :)

  2. yep - like the ducati version of a kid smacked to the tits on speed...awesome bike/lairy wheelie machine that makes loads of noise...im on my third...

  3. ...on your third. What happened to the first two, or are you a serial collector?

  4. No - just over the last 6 or 7 years ive kept coming back to the same bikes...

1st one was about 5 years ago or so...leap of faith...mate had a Millie and talked me into getting "an Italian one.." so I got an 1100s which was absolutely perfect...nothing wrong with it but in 20 odd years of biking on sit up bikes I wanted to try something with fairing and swapped it with an rsv4 factory...which I still have and love - wouldn't part with it unless I could afford and RF (which I cant) - theres no point in trying anything else as id never see the limit of mine...

2nd one was down to sheer bad luck, but kinda ended well....had a KTM660 as a second bike to the RSV4 - mate in work talked me into having a go on his r6 which resulted in 2 minutes and 34 seconds later with me writing it off and then owning it...sold the 660 to pay for the damage. Ive never had an IL600 before and never will again. Absolutely the worst bike ive ever owned. Whiny, gutless, uncomfortable...hated it. Got it all back together and couldn't sell it for love nor money - found a Yamaha dealer up north that had an 1100evo and did a swap with a bit of cash going there way and got it. That one really started to grow on me but then sold it (for what I paid for it 2 years later - but had a load of work done to it) to get a z1ooo (new shape) which I still own (brilliant bike), best naked out there at the moment. while all this was happening I stripped, converted and rebuilt a ktm525 supermoto to fill the void that the old hyper had left (if at the time he wanted to back out I would have kept the evo as I loved it but was a stand up guy so sold it as I promised...) finished the 525 and it just wasn't a hypermotard...

3rd one, spent the last 3 months wearing the other half down for another hyper....got an 1100 evo sp about 3 weeks ago...its staying with me this time...

over the last 7 years ive had 2 hypers plus this one, 2x z1000's and one racer I'm happy with so...now ive got my ideal 3 bikes (ktm up for sale) I think I'm done buying and selling...unless I come into a large amount of cash!! - which I don't think will happen...

  5. Wow, that's some story. My missus would rightly point out that I don't have the spare garage space for more than one bike, so I'm sticking with just the one bike for an occasional sunny dry day blast or trip to coast - etc.

I've had loads of bikes, but haven't learned from mistakes of buying bikes cos I love the looks and sounds of them, and then ride it a little only to discover it doesn't bloody well fit me properly and I can't ride it the way I'd intended.

    Will I ever learn? .....

  6. Well, up until the last 5 years I was too but, follow me here....its lad logic but it works....having my 3 (I know ive got the KTM but its up for sale) favourite types of bikes stops you/me buying more....if I just had say the RSV4 id be looking at someone on a say, z1ooo and then id be thinking...fucking need some of that action....and then sell my soul, and rsv4 to get one.....year or 2 later do the same thing...now ive got the 3....eg out on the rsv4 on Saturday walking round Gordano services looking at all the hardware on show, see a panigale for example, and then think...ive got the RSV4 - no need to change....same with the zed...ill go to fowlers look round a 1290 and think...got the zed...same for the hyper my mate has a lovely dorso 1200 with a full arrow system...but id rather have my hyper...

having more bikes stops you buying and selling more for a loss...eg the ktm is up for sale but, its expensive but its had a lot of time and money ploughed into it so when the right person comes along and appreciates that fact itll go....yes theres no room in my garage at the moment so if it gets too much ill just break the ktm up...

See, you could be actually saving your wife money by having more bikes :)...in the long run I don't change them half as much and now, not at all...for as long as I can see anyway...if theres a surefire way of ending up in the divorce courts the above is it, but ive got an amazing wife...the trade off is, she books the holidays...I just turn up...

  7. Yeah, I understand your lad logic and I'm thinking to myself that I'm on the verge of buying a virtual freehold office unit, and can store bikes in there and possibly sell them on? :)
