1200 Multistrada Only Firing In One Cylinder

  1. Ordered

  2. Well I did change the loom so broken wire is the top of my list to check when I get back in front of the bike. I’m in Rio partying at the moment, so using the time off to research this rather than keep playing part darts.

  3. Other answers above.

Yes I have wanted to quit several times but she is so beautiful, I can’t kill her.

  5. I take it that we are talking about the Twin spark motor here aren't we by looks of your bike it's 2nd generation. Are both plugs sparking because this could be the coil gone open if it does not have enough umph to fire both plugs.

  6. Oustsanding! Have fun!

  7. No it’s 2010 single spark but she will like your compliment that she looks younger than her age. ‍:)

  8. Ok, I still think your cam timings out, I had the same when I changed my belts and the front cylinder cam was 180 degrees out, it ran but like a bucket of nails on one cylinder, checked and found my mistake.

  9. I still suspect that also. Spark firing when valves open would explain backfiring perfectly. Any good writeups you know of that explains how I can check it again?

How did you work out it was 180 degrees out?

But wouldn’t that give zero/low compression on that cyl? Im getting full 180psi on both cylinders...

  10. Because I had to see where I went wrong, and saw that the cam was out. The timing marks are easy to see and I had marked both sides and one rotated so I just aligned it back up but it was 180 degrees out, I did rotate the engine 6-8 times before I ran it to check the cambelts were settled so I knew there was no piston to valve contact. I still think if yours is one tooth out it will not run on that cylinder though

  11. No it can’t be one tooth out as I checked the cams using the cam centre method using a degree wheel and it correlated with the vertical cyl. Didn’t fix the problem though. So I swapped engines and exactly the same problem ... so highly unlikely that both engines had bad valve timing by one tooth.

When the TDC mark is lined up with the mark on the crankcase, both cams form upside down T’s. Then I can fit my Ducati cam holding tool on both cylinder inverted cam T’s... and I wouldn’t be able to do that if a cam is one tooth out.

  12. I don't use sophisticated locking tools when bits of wood suffice nicely.:upyeah: Those are pictures of my Strada 1200S

  13. Yes that is exactly how mine looks. If you look at the center of the cam the notches form 2 inverted T shapes.

  14. Yes correct. Ok so both your motors are shot, I'll give you a monkey for both delivered and you can break the rest of the bike yourself?
    Have we got a deal?:D
What tail tidy have you on that bike? Rizoma Fox?
