V4 Multistrada V4rs

Discussion in 'Multistrada' started by outintheopen, Aug 9, 2023.

  1. The Akrapovic system for MTS V4 has not been included as an accessory on the Ducati website for months. Will they develop one for all models or simply can’t keep up with demand so taken off sale ?

  2. Looks like a tart's handbag. FGS, I'd even opt for a BMW GS based on that and in my world, that potential decision ranks as insanity.....:scream::scream::scream:o_O

  3. I keep getting ‘this page is not available’ in Italian. Frustrating  Andy

  4. I'd opt for a GS based on the price rather than its looks.

  5. Don’t think I could be paid to opt for a GS over the RS.:bucktooth:

  6. What’s really interesting….
Not a perfect analysis but :-
Huge Bhp only comes into its own at very high speeds and revs
Torque is far more important on the road “it’s grunt”

The new RS is 180hp & 118Nm torque.
    The standard V4 is 170hp & 125Nm torque.

  7. I just want a modern equivalent of the ST4s, with semi-active Ohlins and the V4s engine (although I'd still head for a version with the Streetfighter engine, cackling evilly the while). They've got all the bloody parts - what's stopping them? (given the number of sports tourer Kawas I'm seeing, I'm guessing that their response would be, 'You're the hundredth person we've told today, there's no demand for them"…)

  8. Something tells me a Supersport V4 is around the corner. Ducati has done an excellent job with its Supersport 950S.
It's just a question of time before it gets a big brother as it will attract many of the older Panigale craving guys looking for a more relaxed riding position.

  9. Can't really see the point of Multi V4RS over the PP besides bragging rights for the engine. The PP has longer service intervals and as much power. Been looking at Multi's after touring with friends where even Tuono had better fuel range than me, just don't want to sacrifice power.

  10. About the Desmosedici engine in the MTS V4 RS
My best guess is that Ducati is addressing the criticism about the lack of power difference between the V4 Granturismo over the V2 Testastretta 11° engine.

  11. Hi, I’m sticking with my 1260 PP, have tried the V4 but prefer the V2, would also like to try a V4 Supersport if they build one, tried the V2 950 which looks fab and comfy enough for my old bones but the engine isn’t enough!

  12. Seriously thinking of a 1260PP to replace my much-loved and modded 2010 1200S - have you had/ridden both generations and, if so, your relative impressions?

  13. You nailed it. I rode the 950 Supersport and loved it but there's no Oooomph!
Horsepower is addictive. I just don't want to go back down.

  14. My two cents worth:
I've ridden the 1200 DVT extensively and currently ride a 1260 Pikes Peak.
Notwithstanding the early 1200's (which I haven't tried), the latter 1200 DVT has a noticeable dip in the powerband unless a RapidBike unit is fitted.
Ducati has addressed that in the 1260.
The handling of the 1260 Pikes Peak is noticeably smoother and considerably more flickable (if that's a word) due to its lighter forged wheels.

  16. I found the older bike a lot better in the twisties.
Still love my 1260pp 30k miles in though

  17. I had nothing better to do, so I looked at the basic performance differences between the PP and the RS, the following is lifted straight out of the specs table on the Ducati web site.
    PP RS
    Power 170 @ 10500 rpm 180 @ 12250 rpm
    Torque 125Nm @ 8750 rpm 118Nm @ 9500 rpm
    Gear ratios No difference
    F/R sprocket 16/42 15/43
    Rake/Trail No difference
    Wheel base 1595mm 1592mm
    CO 162g/km (EU5) 170g/km (EU5+)
    Consumption 7.0l/100km 7.3l/100km
Valve service 36,000 miles 18,000 miles

The web site gives no weights for the RS but the video stated it’s 3kg lighter, which I guess is made up of 2.5kg for the titanium subframe and 0.5kg for the LiFePO battery.

Bottom line, the PP ownership costs are less and IMO, the PP in the hands of a good rider, isn’t going to be outpaced on country roads. And of significance to me (touring with my girlfriend who rides a Monster 937), the sexy rear end of the RS has no facility for mounting a top box. Andy

Don’t know why I bothered to create a table when the forum structure ignores it : unamused:

  18. The point about being in the hands of a good rider is worth thinking about because to squeeze every last extra mph out of bikes like these takes enormous skill, talent, constant practice, commitment and a track.
A decent rider won’t notice any difference whatsoever, in fact if we’re honest ourselves we may know perhaps one or two riders that could get near using their full potential. :imp:
So the next time you can’t lose a multistrada with full luggage and you’re riding your £40k Sp2 Streetfighter, wearing your Ducati helmet, full leathers, boots & gloves (and you know who you are), learn how to ride don’t just buy a faster bike :punch:

  19. That's my concern - I've ridden the later 1200s and found them a tad more portly in feel on the road. I really like the Jekyll & Hyde nature of the earlier machine, even if it costs in low-speed running. But, at 13 years old, it's probably time for a change

  20. Here in the highlands, a favourite weekend game is cruising around the outside of sports bikes in the corners, two-up, with panniers :-D In the interests of world peace, I have however had to ask herself to back off on the 'strafing Messerschmitt' impressions as we go past…
