I’m on the long haul test , 4 k now no oil , will run all winter , no oil , agree with the occasional oil but that will be with a rag minimal oil and a rub , no more when running salt and winter crud , only to keep the pins rust free . I have the faith in the tech as had long chats with Regina about this . Heated gear for me over the last few years is Keis
So, took the multi out for about 3 hours, 150 miles, in total today. Love the bike but surprised at how quickly I got a sore posterior. After an hour I reckon. Thought this would be my comfy, go anywhere, bike but not with seat discomfort like that. Do I need to run my rear end in (stop it), so to speak, and the discomfort will improve, or is there a comfort seat option out there. Did do a search but cannot find much.
Tha standard seat is not very comfortable, you are pushed forward into the tank. I then got the Ducati heated "comfort" seat, better but after a while and a few long rides it was not that comfortable. Trip to my local seat man, who I have used before on other seats for previous Multi's. He reckons the issue is the heated element that sits just under the seat cover, I decided to have that removed, no issue with warning lights unless you switch it on - so just taped up the connector. When he took the "comfort" seat apart under the cover there was about 5mm of soft foam, then the hard heating element and then another 5mm of soft foam on top of the dense foam seat. The denser foam was them sculpted out and replaced with Memory foam, which was also made flatter in profile, the original seat cover was then put back over the new Memory foam. Result is a very comfortable seat for all day trips with no issues at all, it is not heated but the V4 engine keeps you warm anyway I still have the original heated seat and a spare element. He could have put the heating element into the new Memory foam but for comfort that would have needed to be set down by 25mm (ish) meaning it would be less effective, my preference was a comfortable backside over a hot one. Thanks. I do want to keep the heated seats but don’t mind if it’s a bit less effective. Even on low it roasts my nuts anyway, in conjunction with the v4 as you say. So a bespoke covering with memory foam seems the answer. May as well go for an alcantara type finish whilst I’m there. Anyone got any recommendations for the work? Other than the one already given. Cheers all
This is the heating element from the rider seat. https://photos.app.goo.gl/jShYqrKXrkAz52pS6 The power connector is at the back of the rider seat BUT the hard cable exits the element at the front so then has to run back alongside the element to the rear for the connection - not very clever.
