  6. They are nice to look at. Any thoughts on the F3 800? I rode an 1198 last year loved it but realistically do I really need all that power for the road? Would the 800 cut it?

  7. The f3 800 is a big step forward from the f4 without doubt, in every respect technically. That's not to disrespect anyone who loves the soul of the f4. It's like comparing apples and pears, with the f3 being designed in 2010 and the f4 in the mid 90's!

I would say if the budget is there the f3 800 is a good shout, a few niggly issues like sprag gears in the starter seem to have been sorted quickly and if you are close to a decent dealer then you will have a lovely experience I'm sure. I very nearly bought the f3 800, VERY nearly, but decided on the 899 because of the look and quirky technology of the frame and shock positioning etc.

For me, the f3 would be a step forward from the 998 but the f4 would be a step back IMHO

  8. That's not the point though really Phil. They are now a collector bike and the fact that technology has moved on is irrellevant. It may actually be part of the charm.

Using the same logic, nobody would be interested in early 916's, Yamaha R1's, Honda SP1's etc. Used prices say otherwise though.

  9. I made that point earlier! I'm not silly enough to suggest the f4 isn't steeped in heritage and appeal. Look at my earlier posts!!!

  10. I wasn't commenting on your earlier posts, I was commenting on that one!!!!!!!

Does more exclamation marks prove a point? :)

But seriously, there's nothing wrong with taking a step backwards. I'm looking to but a classic this year. I don't know what yet, but I do know that it'll not accelerate, brake, turn, be as reliable as any of my modern Ducatis..........but I'll love it. I personally don't need the latest hyperbike in my life to feel satisfied. It's what tugs at my heart that fuels my decisions these days.

  11. Currently I'm looking at SRAD's and 748's having just spent an hour tinkering with a mates 748r so I'm obv in agreement, the 'digital' bikes are amazing but can lack soul.

My exclamations are because it's frustrating that people are so defensive on this forum. I personally think the OP isn't sure what he wants because when u own a 998, the f4 is a reasonable change but as I said if buying a f3 you are kinda after a different thing altogether.
