My 1098R clutch used to do that when I first got it. Like you said, it was just embarrassing before, hard to modulate, lurching all over the place, with that groaning sound. I stripped the clutch and cleaned it all up and greased it and its now nearly as good as my 1299.
My clutch makes a grating sound when setting off on my 1098. I had it checked over during a service with Ducati john and he found no issues. It has been making a grinding noise setting off since I have had it, about 6 years now. Which bits do we grease?

My R does this too. It’s more than embarrassing as it makes pulling out of junctions a gamble as you might end up stalling it halfway across the road you’ve pulled out into. I am soon to price up and replace the basket and plates as it’s got beyond a joke now.
Stalled the blade 2nd in line at the pit exit at Silverstone at the start of the 1st session on Monday infront of everyone and the instructors after asking them to move me to Inters and them telling me to "man-up" and get in fast. Couldn't start the fecker again either as apparently it needs to be in neutral. Very red faced.
@AmalfiCoast_1198s Upload that video of your clutch noises when you get a chance. We'll see if its the same thing. The bits I greased were the bits mentioned in the service manual (extract below). I'm sure that greasing bit though is more for the smooth running of the slipper mechanism. The bit I think helped most with the launches, was the general strip and clean of the basket and plates. Due to still having a closed cover, there was a lot of dust build up in mine. I stripped all the plates out and cleaned them all. The basket was slightly worn by the plates, and where there was wear, there were small tangs of metal on the inner face of the basket which I removed to try smooth the movements of the plates up. Re-fitted it all and it was much better. No more groaning sounds as I set off, no more lunging, predictable, and very easy to modulate. I suspect though, as it gets dirtier again, those previous symptoms will return. I read this though: http://www.ducati.ms/forums/56-superbikes/123775-grabby-shreiking-clutch-how-i-cured.html Might try that when I have to re-clean my clutch. Grease on friction plates does somehow seem counter-intuitive to me, but seems like loads have tried it with good results, and also the fact that wet clutches exist... Has anyone here tried that?? Haha I was worried about stalling at junctions too, so instead I tried to put in more throttle and release the clutch faster.....which just ended up being just as scary as it power wheelied off the lights :/. Try cleaning it or even that lithium grease trick above to see if it does anything for you?
The grease is just for the slipper function and has no effect on graunchy pulling away. My clutch is fine from the perspective of slipping as I recently regreased it.
Ah I meant the OTHER grease trick! http://www.ducati.ms/forums/56-superbikes/123775-grabby-shreiking-clutch-how-i-cured.html
Thinking about it, mine only does it from cold when I pull away from my home up a slope onto the highway. I think it behaves once warm......
