If it's scooter boys, they'll break the steering lock and push it down the street with their scooters. Sad to say, but a decent disc lock may have given the precious few seconds it took to save the bike.
I had a word with someone who may know (Ducati bike rider himself) and word is "they get around 3-5 in a large panel van and straight back to the Eastern block where they are either stripped or sold as is". Many bikes are leaving the same day they are stolen. Tracker is the only real answer and get it back yourself.......with some mates...
Get a bike from a scrappy, hide a steel hawser anchored from swingarm to a skip or lampost and when the scum suckers push it away, by pushing with a foot on the exhaust, the sudden stop'll drive the pusher's shinbone up through his jeans, crash the moped and throw the 'rider' over the handlebars, leaving them both lying in the road waiting for 'attention'
not sure about others but where and who i grew up with hearing about stolen vehicles. many had been to prison for joy riding. and still stole. and weren't bothered by being caught again. so any law bar the death sentence wouldnt really lower theft and law breaking any amount noticeable.

Gutted for you, I know how I would feel if it was one of mine. Certainly would be tempting to set up a sting bike and torture the bastards until their mates turned up with the bike and suitable compensation for the grief caused. Then you could really beat the living crap out of them, after all that's the only thing they might understand.
Really sorry to here this.London seems be be a hot spot for bike thefts and the thing is its would be so simple for the police to sort this out with a few decoy bikes and a ak48.
I feel for you Chiz, I really do. The situation is worse than bad in London,action is well overdue. Twice recently I've seen Scooter/ped boys and got that 6th sense. They ride dangerously, often two abreast, usually dark clothing. Sunday I was heading up Castlenau with another guy on a Hypermotard ( which is near Chiz's incident). Two peds went by in the opposite direction and seemed to take notice of us. Again sixth sense cut in. I was glad I wasn't on my own. It was heavy traffic and I wondered what I'd do if they turned around. It does happen, they even try and mug you for your bike right there n then. People/ my brothers from out of town say to me 'God you're so security obsessed.' This is why. It is a real epidemic, something needs to be done. With all the cameras in London how difficult is it for the Police to track them? If they don't do something, before long someone else will and you can bet it will be messy.
