My 848 Corse SE is way too vibey!

  1. Bike's been given a clean bill of health so last port of call is to screw the bollocks of it for the next 500 miles. ET and other's you we're right and this is indeed a problem requiring the proverbial hammer to fix ;)

Been caning it for about an hour and blow me if I haven't already knocked off some of the rough edges, unless its just wishful thinking. My theory then is the previous Evo I had was tracked hard for the first 1500miles so the engine was all lovely and supple.

So I'm going to be seeing red for next few rides, or more specifically red red red RED, red red red RED red red red RED...

  2. Interesting.

So what you've been told is basically to flog it silly and hope that it'll go away?
Well, hope for the best but...
If it's out of balance it'll most likely stay that way. A few rough edges is not uncommon to be able to rub off but serious vibration not very much so.
But, I might be wrong and in this case I do hope that I am.

Will Ducati reimburse me/us for any speeding tickets? How about de-merit points to the license?
It's hard to work the bike really hard without risking both...and perhaps even a high speed chase...

  3. I wasn't told to cane it by the dealer just give it some more miles now that its run in. Won't take long to do 500 more miles. If I see a change then good if not its back to dealer.

  4. OK.
I misinterpreted the caning a bit then. That said good luck with it.

  5. As part of those miles I'd be pointing it at another, better dealer for a second opinion. Where's the harm in that?

  6. I don't disagree, but sometimes if you don't cane them now and again and only ride it "like Miss Daisy" these things dont work as they should.

  7. That might well be a good idea Glidd.

ET: I usually like to keep it in the 7-9k range when riding hard as that gives the nicest response, anything more I usually save for emergencies. Its an angry, angry sounding machine up to the red line, sounds like somethings going to pop!

  8. Just out of interest............................when does thrashing it so it's way past 9k revs count as an "emergency"?

  9. Most of my poorly executed overtakes!

  10. I realise the dealer has given it a look over....But, if you have an allen key set and a socket set, it's a good idea to check the long bolts going through the frame and engine.
They can come a little loose and this leads to a lot of vibes all over. When I say loose I don't mean the engine is going to fall out, but just not tight as a tight thing on prom night!
It's possible of course that "these days" they are done up with super strength thread lock at the factory.

  11. Certainly no harm giving them a check. I have a pdf of all the torque settings on the 848 so I can check its to spec. I did think of maybe loosening then retightening the main engine/frame bolts just in case there was some kind of slight torsion or stress there.

  12. Is it still under warranty?

Get the dealer to do it.

  13. Easy enough for me to turn some bolts in my own garage than waste two hours hanging round at a dealers for them to do it. Assuming its easy to get to the bolts.

  14. And prolly invalidate the warranty?

  15. Ooh really? Bugger.

Wouldn't that come under general maintainance though?

  16. No. It would come under "fucking about with summat that you shouldn't whilst it's under warranty"

If something ever went wrong you can bet your life they'd use it against you not to pay out/sort it.

  17. undoing and redoing a few bolts is never going to invalidate your warranty.

  18. You wanna put some money on that?

  19. Two nuts/bolts... You may have to remove the fairing on your bike.
Not going to get into the warranty spat, if it was me i'd just do it.

  20. I tightened one of the bolts on the subframe of my previous 848 as it was massively under torqued. What's the secret mojo they use to tell if a bolt has been fucked about with? I've seen lines drawn on some nut/bolt shafts to show where they are set, looks like a regular marker pen to me.
